Jericho Terrace v. Westbury Manor

I'm newly engaged & my FH & I are trying to book a place for the reception in the late fall. We liked both Jericho Terrace (great cocktail room, love the skyligt in the ballroom & we've both been to weddings there) - AND we also liked Westbury Manor (great ambiance & the lovely historic charm - definitely NOT a typical catering hall).

We're so torn - any thoughts/comments/suggestions? Definitely including things that you did NOT like about either venue.

I also looked at both - we liked WM better for the easy access off N. State or LIE, and we liked WM's food better.

It's really a personal preference - what's important to you?

Also, take into account the grounds....WM has fabulous gardens, but JT has the fountain and bridge, etc.

We had WM on our list of places to check, but when we tried to find it, we kept going back and forth driving past it!!! Mind you this was during the summer, and we realized later on that trees were blocking the sign to the entrance!! But we realized, if we can't even find it, how will our guests find it?? (Of course now we both know where it is exactly!!!)

I've only been in WM once and it was for a half hour, but I have heard nothing but great things about it!!

We went to 10 halls before JT, but the minute we met with our BM and had a food tasting, we were sold. They even showed us around the kitchen which was spotless. Yes, it is Italian gaudy in a way, but my FH really liked that!!

So it boils down to personal preference. Maybe you can bring your parents to both and see what they say?

They're two totally different type of halls...

I looked at only WM because I do not like the catering hall type of feel. WM is warm and inviting.
I had a friend get married at JT...it was beautiful for her.

You can't really compare the two in my opinion....they're total opposites, but I will say I've never heard anything negative about either. You just need to decide what type of place you want to get married at.

always loved the look of JT...had a very bad food tasting experience (we went to a showcase and neither me or fh enjoyed the food at all- had no flavor, was BEYOND bland) don't know if it was a fluke, but it definitely left a bad taste in my mouth (literally and figuratively)

WM has GREAT GREAT GREAT food. it's really my favorite part, and since food was most important to me..there really was no question.

My sister had her wedding at Jericho Terrace, thats the only reason why I am not doing it there. The staff is very friendly, beautiful place and the food & service was great. My sister received alot of compliments. And the cake which was included was very pretty and yummy.

Before we booked Westbury Manor as our hall, Jericho Terrace was the front runner.. I went to the bridal show there and I had a deposit with me.. bottom line is that the BM there misled me and FH.. we are having a small wedding 100-110 ppl and was never shown the Oak Room downstairs.. I was told by the BM that if we wanted to do a lesser minimum in the Skylight room, they would have to charge us more money bc they had to still make a profit on the room.. I almost fell over when he said that.. That was the turning point for me..
Plus, when I took my mom to see WB, and she cried, I knew that's where we were having our wedding..

I didn't look at a lot of halls, and I hadn;t been to a lot of weddings when I booked, but my sister who got married a few years ago did look at a lot of places and ahd been to a lot of weddings so she gave me her feedback. She told me JT was really nice, but the walls are so paper thin you can hear the next party's music.

That s*cks....probably why they don't show the Oak Room on their website!!! As soon as we told our BM that we were having less than 100 people, he showed us the Oak Room.

We saw Jericho Terrace and really liked the space.

This was a while ago and we got pricing for Sept/Oct 2005 $70 pp Sat/Sun afternoons; Nov $65 pp also afternoons; Jan - Feb 2006 $55 pp afternoons; 150 gurantee for Dome room; 125 for smaller room. Pretty outdoor pic areas but not ceremony or cocktail.

We ended up getting a quote of $55 per person with 150 minimum in the Dome Room and $55 per person with a 115 guarantee for the Skylight Room.

Mike Closs is the BM we met and really liked. He even took us on a tour of the kitchen - which was very clean. There are two menus. We only knew about the cheaper menu until I read this site and found out there was a deluxe menu. I asked Mike about it and he said we could pick and choose some items from the Deluxe Menu for the regular price. I think the larger menu has 7 entree choices and the menu we saw (and would have gone with) has 3 entree choices. He threw in a grilled shrimp station too.

We both wanted an outdoor ceremony & cocktail hour but otherwise we would have booked Jericho Terrace.

Just one question for WM brides - I plan on about 200 people - we were told that the cocktail hour would be in the conservatory & library - which, although beautiful, seemed kinda small (& that was before any of the stations had been set up).

I'm a big cocktail hour person b/c I feel people eat & drink more there & I hate trying to balance a plate of food & drink without a seat! Anyone else with similar concerns?

I thought the same thing about Westbury Manor cocktail hour - the library & conservatory are NOT large rooms - I do not know how 200 people could fit in those rooms....... (if the weather is not good enough to go outside.) That is the only thing that I am concerned about..... I really love WM and want to book there but that is a major concern of mine.... I do not like when there is not enough room at a cocktail hour for everyone to have a seat.

I dont think many, if any halls have enough seating for everyone at a cocktail hour. That hour is supposed to be where all the guests mingle and stuff.

We saw about six halls before we fell in love with WM. We never saw JT so I can't speak for them but WM is beautiful and the BM is great, when ever we had a question we called up and they helped us all of the way.

I would definately recommend Jericho Terrace. I am getting married there and my sister got married there. In my opinion, the food is great, the place is gorgeous, and it is a little less expensive than WM.

I could be all biased about Westbury manor because thats my hall.
However, I think choosing your reception Hall is a really personal choice. You and FH really have to feel it is the right place. They are both so different, its hard to compare. Which one feels more like the place you envision your wedding in?
I know as soon as we walked into WM and started getting the tour we all knew (my mom was with us too) that is was the place.
If you are still really unsure, I would recommend seeing some more places until you find the right fit.

Me and my FH booked Westbury manor. We both really wanted an out door ch. We had always like jt but being our wedding is in July we wanted an outdoor ch. It's a different kind of hall. You really can't compare it to jt. As soon as we walked into wm we fell in love. the ground are great for taking pics. and the food is amazing!!!

i cant say enough about WM, and like the other girls here who had their weddings there, its hard not to be biased, but honestly ive been to 2 weddings at JT, and it is just different then WM...JT is alil more "catering hall" like, westbury manor kind of brings you back into a different time...its very beautiful in a romantic old fashioned traditional way, the gardens are outstanding, and if it rains, the inside conservatory and library are GORGEOUS...
i went to about 20 catering halls...when i stepped into WM, it was nothing like the rest, we had an incredible dream come tru wedding there!!
