Add me to the list of girls that know something about their shower!!
Because of all the BS that has been surrounding my shower (MOH dropping the ball, causing my family to be pissed off and upset) my parents slipped in ranting to tell me my aunt found a place in Queens and they're getting it catered by an Italian place in Brooklyn.
I already know they will probably plan it for early April, because March seems to be a really bad month with everyone going away different weekends.
Which means I will know beforehand when my shower is, because we NEVER go to Queens unless we have a reason for it!! I don't have any relatives there and only a few friends. So now I will see it coming.......ugh.

Janna sweetheart, I am so sorry. I feel your pain baby girl. .
You can add me to the list too.
My mother slipped one day. She was having problems communicating with my MOH, so ended up telling me where & when mine is.
Horrible  Nothing can be a suprise anymore

Don't worry Janna, I'm sure your family will make something up that will throw you for a loop!!!!  A lot of this BS may be staged so that you don't realize it's actually a different weekend from what you think. I know it's terrible but they love to trick the bride!!

Don't sweat it. It s ucks that it's not going to be a huge surprise, but once you walk in to see all of those happy ladies in the room waiting for you, you'll mostly forget about the surprise being ruined!

Janna, in the grand scheme of things, this is not a big deal.
we ALL know we are having a shower, so the matter of when doesn't really MATTER...
it's the people that come together and express their generosity, love and support. those things are so overwhelming, that it irradicates any other thing that happens up to that point.
I know for a fact that my shower is this weekend, in Bay Ridge. my BP is keeping the day from me...just as a token surprise, but I really don't care.
As I saw yesterday at chris' shower, there will still be things that will surprise you in ways you've never imagined, and could never measure up to the surprise of a "date"
DO NOT LET THIS GET YOU DOWN!

Janna,
Dont stress it. It is only a shower...at the end of the day, if you know or dont know about the date, you will be surrounded by people who care about you and love you and are there to shower you with gifts...dont stress it...I think at this point this should be the last thing you should stress about. Let everyone else do the work.

I totally agree. Surprise or not, people are coming out to show their love and support for your marriage.
I have gotten calls from several people about my shower including MY DAD to tell me that one of his guests for the wedding got her shower invite

Janna,
That day, it won't matter whether or not it's a surprise. You will be so happy to be surrounded by people who love you and are happy for you. Look at this way, some people never have showers because no one can get it together. At least you have people who love you and are willing to plan a special day for you.

I agree with Jess.
I basically cooked and cleaned for my showever and it didn't bother me one bit. I know we're supposed to just show up and enjoy it, but honestly, it's not a big deal, b/c there will still be surprises. I knew details - guets, food, gifts, etc..but I was still very surprised in the amount of effort, love, and care that was displayed on that very special day.
Don't let this get you down! Trust me, it's one thing to "imagine" it...but it'll be something completely different.

I'm so sorry Janna! What happened when you brother spoke with your MOH? I think you really should demote her because she is NOT being very supportive. Regardless of what is going on in her life, she should be at least doing the minimum of what a MOH does. I'm so sorry Sweetie!!! I look forward to the shower though!

I just want to laugh because it's a running joke in my family that not a single bride has been able to make it to her shower without knowing about it. Someone always has slipped and said something. Because of this, I know my MOH said that this time would be different, and that they would pull it off for once since I am the last female in the family to get married. I can guarantee that someone will slip that week and tell me when it is!! It never fails in my family!!!
Ah well, so much for that!!!
ETS: I would demote her, if I wouldn't get so much flack from my aunt for it (she's her mother and is the one handling the shower with my parents right now). My family would agree with me on it, though.

i'm in your boat -- my surprise was ruined (thank you FMIL who caused a big problem.) I know the date, time, place -- I even had to help pick a new place when we needed bigger space. It *****. But at least you're having a shower.
My stupid FMIL now thinks I'M planning it. I keep telling her to go to my MOH if she has questions, the shower is supposed to be a surprise.
Oh, and what's the worst is that there was such a good cover-up for this. I NEVER would have figured it out. It's a family-friend's bday two days before. I was told we're going out for brunch to celebrate.

Don't worry about it. I knew about my shower because someone wrote it on the calander at my mom's house (she lives with my grandmother and my aunt). I never told anyone I knew and I was still so amazingly surprised when I walked in. The moment is so wonderful that you will enjoy it no matter what. Seeing everyone you love there for you and your FH will warm your heart.
