Hey guys....I really need some help

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could help me....

I got engaged on 2/14/06 and I want to plan a wedding for 9/06 or 11/06.

The date that I really want is 9/5/06...this is a tuesday...the day after Labor Day. My parents aren't to pleased with this date and it's driving me crazy!!

Can anyone just give me a clear vision! Please list some pros and cons of having a wedding on this day......I would really appreciate it

Thanks,
Q

Re: Hey guys....I really need some help

Congradulation!!! And good luck with the planning.

The fact that it's on a tuesday and people have to work the next day is a negative. Also people have just returned from their 3-day weekend and will probably not want to leave work early, or will not be allowed to by their boss, in order to get ready for your wedding.

The only pro I can think of is that the reception hall would be less expensive than on a weekend.

You should also take into consideration what type of cerimony you are going to have. If it's a religous on you have to conform to that faith's traditions on when cerimonies are held. Most of the major religions only do weekend weddings.

Hope this helps.

Re: Hey guys....I really need some help

Congratulations, and welcome to the world of wedding planning.

My first question to you, is why is this date so significant?

The second thing I would say about a Tuesday wedding, is that it will be a great harship for your guests, they need to take a day off to come to your wedding.

The third thing I would say is why don't you and FH pick a totally different day, and make that one your 'special day'. FH and I wanted to get married on our 7 year anniversary, but we couldn't cause it fell on a Monday. It just wasn't logical to us.

The fourth thing i will say, is afterall it is your day and if it makes you and FH happy to get married on a tuesday, than so be it!!

Good luck, and I as well as everyone else are all here to help!

Congrats on your engagement and welcome!

Some pros to getting married on a Tuesday:
it's cheaper
you have more catering hall options since it's close
you'll probably be the only wedding

Cons:
many people might not be able to come since it's during the week

Hope this helps!

Re: Hey guys....I really need some help

It's a tough date because it is on a Tuesday and most people go back to work that Tuesday. If you had it on Monday that might be easier for your guests. If you are open on your date, I would call around to catering halls and find out what dates are available. Most places are pretty booked up by now. You might have an easier time getting a November date then a September date too. If cost is an issue, you could try a Friday night or Sunday brunch wedding. Cogratulations and happy planning!!

Thanks for your support guys....

It really is a cost thing for us.....being that it is so short notice, and we can't afford a Saturday night reception, and if we could they are already booked.....we thought that we could do it on a week-day instead of a week-end.....some of my concerns were children would be going back to school in the beginning of September, and people may not be able to show up do to the holiday....plus they may have to go to work the next day. ....Maybe....I can find out about booking on the Sunday night before Labor Day.

Thanks again,
Q

I started planning my wedding in December for April and I'm pretty much on the same page as everyone else getting married at the same time. That's planning in 4 almost 5 months. I ordered my dress in September and its scheduled to come in March 25. My bridal party dresses were ordered in January and came in this month. So don't worry too much regarding time. Be careful with Sunday before because they charge the same as a Saturday since Monday everyone is off. I think you should look at Monday, Labor Day....you'll get Sunday prices. Also I got good qoutes because I went into place and asked what dates were available for 5-6 months away. They tend to either give you a good price or include a lot more stuff for short notice. Once again this was my experience with the places I went. Every reception hall is different.

i agree! if you dont' have your heart already set on a specific place and are flexible with the date, you might be able to get a venue for saturday or sunday at a better rate (since they'll try to offload the date now).

Re: Hey guys....I really need some help

The Sunday night before Labor day will be just as expensive as a saturday night. Since the next day is a holiday, the catering halls consider it the same thing.
That is a very popular weekend, I would think most catering halls (and a lot of vendors) are booked already.
A tuesday is good because its cheaper, but a lot of people probably won't come.
Are you set on September? If you pushed it back a few months, to say January of '07, there would probably be a lot more dates available and it would also be cheaper than September.
Good luck!

I don't mind doing....November 06'...or even Jan. 07', but I did at least want flowers to be where ever I book my reception..you know?...Is the Thursday before Labor Day still going to be at a cheaper rate?......Or does that depend on the catering hall?....

Re: Hey guys....I really need some help

Congratulations

Pros of a Tuesday wedding:

Cheaper price at the hall

Lower minimum at the hall for a larger room

Possibly the only wedding (and only party that matter) at a multiple wedding hall

Preferred vendors will probably be available

Preferred vendors will probably give you great pricing

Cheaper flights for your out of town guests to fly out of NY (on a Wednesday)

You can probably negotiate a great hotel rate for your guests

Cons of a Tuesday wedding:

Unless you send out Save the Dates now and your guests can start making plans to be off work, it may be hard to make your minimum or you may have to invite 300 guests to make a 150 minimum.

Someone else mentioned this but for a religious ceremony many churches may not allow a Tuesday wedding. But call your church to ask before scrapping the idea

Good luck

I agree - either the Thurs. or Mon. - Thurs. should still be cheaper too. Its actually the Sun. they may charge you as a Sat. night.

And you have plenty of time for planning, it'll be hectic but totally doable!

Congrats!

Re: Hey guys....I really need some help

I think you might have some luck negotiating a price if it's not booked yet... catering halls want to make $, and if a sunday afternoon or friday night, or even a satruday night isn't booked yet for 2006 now, they want to try to sell it o you.... so consider tat.... asking what dates they still have open for 2006 and what's the best they can do for you....

also, did you consider a package deal place like Ariana Waterfall or Brentwood Country Club where everythings included?

good luck to you!!

Re: Hey guys....I really need some help

You know I kind of agree that the Tuesday after labor day is a hard date. Everyone will need to take off 2 days of work -- the Tuesday and the Wednesday which is a lot to ask of people.

Anyone who has kids in school will have trouble as well.

What about the THURSDAY before Labor Day weekend?

yes thursday is the only weekday that i have heard of being popular (meaning out of Mon-Thurs) obviously friday is a biggie. my hall won't even book a day besides thurs, fri, sat, or sun...

check that out!! most people make a long weekend out of it even if you choose a thursday that does not come before a holiday b/c people just take friday off...

good luck and welcome!!!

Congratulations!!!

The tuesday would probably be very diffucult for people to go to. Especially since if anyone has children the next day is the first day of school and they may need to be home to get them all organized.

Pro - cheaper - should be able to get any vendor or any place you want

Good Luck

Re: Hey guys....I really need some help

Congrats and and welomce!

if cost is an issue--why not have it in the winter of 07? gives you so much more time to plan--and you could find a sat. night in the winter time to be soooo much cheaper!!

i'm going the absolute cheapest---sunday in february in the daytime! we saved a HUGE amount of money. you can definetely have the same kind of flowers in the winter--only some rarer spring time flowers are difficult to find in the winter (and since you are already planning on a september wedding, i doubt you're looking for springtime!)

i'd check out from December 06 to the end of February 07 for halls--you will save so much $$, and you'll be so happy to give yourself some extra time with the planning!

Don't worry about having to plan on 7 months. I am doing it too.

Pros: cheaper, probably available for a lot of vendors.

Con: everybody will be working. you may have a lot of people not attending.
