Need Hawaii Opinions!!
Ok, ladies, I thought that I made up my agenda, now I'm second guessing myself. Ok, the travel agent suggested 5 nights in Oahu at the Halekulani in Waikiki. It's five-star, I've read great reviews. The agent said that Oahu is the most fun of the islands because it is a city. Then, we booked Maui for four nights at the Hyatt Regency. A different agent said to go to Kauai instead of Oahu and stay at the Hyatt because it is gorgeous. This one said Kauai is boring and if you want to do something at night, go to Oahu. Now, I'm confused.. Also, the Oahu and Maui trip was quoted at 6400, which I thought wasn't bad.

Re: Need Hawaii Opinions!!
I just went thru this and here are my findings:
(1) - Oaho is the cheapest island to stay on, so if you want to extend your trip, you'll get the most bang for your buck there. It's also very touristy though...so I'm told.
(2) - Kauai does sound absolutely beautiful (I'm staying there for 4 nights) there is a lot of "outdoorsy" stuff to see. Hikes, waterfalls, etc. And I've heard fantastic things about that Hyatt.
(3) - Maui is the most expensive island to stay on. Cutting nights at Maui will lessen the cost of your trip.
I don't know anything about the hotel in Waikiki, but $6400 for nine nights sounds a little high to me, especially since you'll be in Oaho for 5 nights.
Have you gone to Liberty Travel? FM me if you want more info. I'm happy to help!

Re: Need Hawaii Opinions!!
My sister when to Kuai and stayed at the Grand Wolaya there....its known for having the water elevator. ANyway DON"T STAY THERE!! SHe loved the resort she hated the fact that it was ALL KIDS! If you want to be with young children its a good place. Her agent recommended it, andthey paid over $500 a night for it and were miserable. She said she had to be up by 630 to get a beach chair, and there was screaming kids! They stayed there for 9 days, and another 6 at the Hyatt Regency I beleive in Maui and LOVED it there! Hope that helps

Re: Need Hawaii Opinions!!
We spent 16 days in Hawaii on our honeymoon. Here are my thoughts:
Oahu - flew in, stayed ONE night so that we could get up early and see Pearl Harbor, our only reason for visiting this island. We were done with Pearl Harbor by 9:30 am and wanted to get off the island as quickly as possible. Even tried to move our flight up from 4:30 that afternoon to that morning, but couldn't. The entire place, minus Pearl Harbor, reminded me of Miami. I would not go back.
Kauai - love it, love it, love it. I can not say enough good things about this island. I almost don't want to publicize how great this island is for fear that it gets built up. The entire place is amazing, and so different then any of the tropical islands (carribean, etc) that I've been to. The Hyatt is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!! I almost cried when we left b/c this place is just undescribable. There isn't much night life, BUT, all the other islands (not counting oahu) also don't really have night life. So DH and I had late dinners, went back to the hyatt and went swimming. Unlike all of the other hotels we stayed at, the Hyatt's pool is open 24 hrs. We would definitely go back, and would stay at the Hyatt hands down. B/c of this place the Hyatt has lifelong customers in DH and I.
Maui - I was glad we went, but we won't go back. It is very commercial, not built up city-like, but more suburban like...they even have a Costco. It just felt like it lost it's character. Reminded me a bit of Florida. We stayed at the Grand Wailea (waste of money). Maui has great restaurants, and the best part, the Road to Hana.
Big Island - This was our 2nd favorite island, and we would definitely go back. Since you didn't mention it, I won't go into details, but if you want more info on it, just let me know.
Feel free to FM if you have other questions.

Hi...I have never been but know so many people who have (parents, sisters, and lots of my friends)...
I have never heard of anyone honeymooning to Hawaii and spending that many nights on Oahu. I was going to do Hawaii and was going to have to do 3 nights there just the way flights and things were working out and that was too many for me! I would only do 1 night there to do Pearl Harbor...2 nights tops. You are going to Hawaii - if you want city life - come into Manhattan! It's just that...a city. I have friends who spent a few days there and hated it....it is not the tropical Hawaii you dream of. Although the Halekulani is supposed to be gorgeous...it's also expensive. I just wouldn't spend that kind of money on an island like Oahu. I'd save up for the fancier hotels on the other islands.
I've heard some people who loved Kuai...others who thought it was boring with nothing to do. So if you are the types who like to relax at your hotel...this island is for you. Hyatt is supposed to be lovely here.
You should absolutey spend more nights on Maui than on Oahu! Maui there is so much to do. I was going to do 5 nights here and was afraid it was not enough. YOu have that awesome sunrise bikeride down the volcano, road to Hana and much more. Hyatt here is also supposed to be great...in the busier part of the island. If you're like me and want more seclusion and not so much party life....stay in Wailea at either the Four Seasons or Grand Wailea (lots of kids) or Fairmont Kea Lani which my friends have raved about.
Now if you are into relaxing and nothing else and don't want to try Kuai...I've heard that Lanai is even nicer than Kuai but again - not much to do. My friend went and said it was the most gorgeous place she's ever seen.
If I were going to Hawaii though - I would not miss the Four Seasons Hualalai on the Big Island. This is supposed to be one of the best resorts in the world. My friend stayed 3 nights there and said it was not enough. You have to get the ground floor rooms....your bathroom opens up to your own private black lava rock outdoor shower. The rooms there are insane....and the resort looks amazing! Check it out. My friend said if she ever went back she'd skip Kuai, do more time on Big Island and less on Maui only b/c she did all the excursions her first time there.
Good luck with your planning....HTH.
