Reception Halls
Hi Girls. I need some help. I haven't been on here much since work keeps me very busy. I was wondering if any of you have looked at the Garden City Hotel or Chateau La mer, and what you though about them? I'm currently living in the city so finding time to go and look at halls on LI , my my FH and I definately want to get married on LI, has been difficult. Thanks for your help!!!

Re: Reception Halls
You should do a search on the brides review. You should get a ton of info on both halls. Good luck!

Re: Reception Halls
I booked Westbury Manor and they are wonderful.. they can accomodate a smaller wedding like I am having (aprox 110ppl) to a larger room that holds over 300..
I wanted to look at the Garden City Hotel and when I was quoted $165 a plate, I almost fell over.. it was WAY out of our price range.
Chateau La Mer was nice, it just wasn't for us.. Even though they are renovating, it was a little outdated for us.. But very pretty..

Re: Reception Halls
We're actually date twins and I looked at the Garden City Hotel. I've been there at events before and it's gorgeous. However, I was severley unimpressed when we went to look at it for our event. First, the cost per person STARTED at $200pp. This didn't include filet mignon or anything else in that class. Also, we told them that we didn't want more than 150 people and so they said that we'd have to have our event in the smaller room. We went to see the smaller room and it was dark, dingy, extremely low ceiling and wayyyy toooooo smaallll for 150 people. There had just been a Bar Mitzvah in that room. For that kind of event, I think the room was the perfect size, but not for a wedding! However, the large ball room (The Grande Ballroom) is amazingly beautiful. If you're having 200+ people at your wedding, then you'd fall in love with the room! It truly is magnificent. I've really loved events there that I've been to in the past, but if you're having it there, you're basically paying for one thing--the name. I think you can have an equally beautiful wedding without breaking the bank at a place like the GCH. Good luck and FM me if you want any more info, I still have the packet they gave me when we went to look at it.

Hi Lorin...Thanks so much for filling me in on this. I'll definately scratch the idea of the Garden City Hotel. Do you have any suggestions for halls, since it sounds like we are looking at the same type of places?

Re: Reception Halls
I'm booked at Chateau La Mer for my Oct wedding. We fell in love with the place from the first time we walked in. The view is spectacular (especially if your having a sunset/evening wedding). The staff has been very helpful and good to us. We went to the food tasting and that's what sealed the deal for us. We thought the food was incredible. And you can't beat the price. I booked in August 2005 and I'm paying $70/pp for Oct 7. After tax and gratuity it comes to about $82/pp for a Sunday night wedding on Columbus Day weekend. Lou (our BM) also gave us the chocolate fountain for 1/2 price. Plus, I heard that if you really work at them they'll throw in a few other things here and there. Depending on how may people you are having I recommend the Atrium room which is downstairs. By no means is the upstairs room not pretty, but it just didn't have the same feel. If you check it out, you'll see what I mean. I believe you have to guarentee 175 for the Atrium though. Also, I love the idea of arriving on their yacht. I've seen pictures and it's just such a great photo opportunity! (They should pay me for selling this place like I do to everyone! ) Anyway, good luck with your decision. FM if you ever want more info.

Re: Reception Halls
Chateau La Mer was my second pick and am considering having an engagement party there. The food tasting was phenomenal..I chose Russos for other reasons...but no joke...the food compared...and it was phenomenal. The atrium room is absolutely beautiful...The high ceilings make it very elegant...
One of the most important things is that the Customer service is second to none. We were working with Nick and you are seriously treated like family. IF I were you I would take the time to go out there..check out the facilities..go to a food tasting..the place sells itself.
Also....go on the brides review...and go to search and search for Chateau La Mer...they have amazing reviews on there...good luck

I don't know what kind of things you're interested in and how big your budget is or how many people you're expecting. Our first choice was the Carlton, but the price per person was $200 and they weren't willing to budge on the 185 person minimum (for an evening wedding). I also really loved the Roslyn Claremont Hotel, but the ballroom seemed a little small for the amount of people we're having. I also like the DeSeversky Center on the NYIT Old Westbury Campus.

Re: Reception Halls
The GCH is amazing, I was there last weekend for brunch. I'm going to a wedding at the CLM in May, I have never been there before. I'll let you know how it was. I'm booked at the North Ritz Club and I'm having about 180 people. Everyone at the NRC has been wonderful and very accommodating. I highly recommend looking into it! Good Luck!!!

Re: Reception Halls
CLM and the Garden City Hotel are 2 very different reception hall venues.
If you have a larger budget look at: Carlyl Carltun (in Eisenhower Park) Glen Cove Mansion Deseversky Never been but: Bourne Mansion, Lands End get great reviews as well I live near the GCH - it is nice - never been inside the ballroom - thought of as an upscale venue site. Way out on the island (Hampton area) is Atlantica which is great too.
CLM was on the water, nice, and much more affordable (100pp on a Sat night was what I was quoted). This venue can host 2 events at a time. Places similar to this would be the Riviera and North Ritzs Club all fantastic places which i have been to and liked.
It really depends what size your wedding is, what your looking for, and your budget.

Re: Reception Halls
Hi,
CLM is not very big and can have up to four events on the same day where, two events for the same ballroom (one in AM and one in PM). Also, the events use the same space (ie. Cocktail Hour room, outdoor ceremony area ie. gazebo), therefore, CLM only give half-hour before the ceremony to decorate.. don't the guests arrive during that time?!
I've had good experiences with CLM but, until recently.. they've not been responsive.
Also, I spotted two dirty skylight glasses in the Atrium room and asked if they'll be cleaned/fixed, Lou said there are air-pockets between the two layers of glass. There's a hole on the outer glass and may not be fixed.

Re: Reception Halls
CLM is awesome! They can have 2 parties at a time. I requested a time when I was the only bride. They had a bridal shower during my wedding and I never even saw the people. Noone even knew it.
They were beyond amazing! I would definately give them an A++++++++
The food was amazing! The service was amazing! Everything was GORGEOUS! There is not one thing I would change! They took us away on a nice boat at the beginning of cocktail hour and we had champagne and strawberries. The chocolate fountain was AWESOME! Nick was the best BM and I requested Monica also. They were so polite! Monica even ran over the second I dripped CF on my dress and cleaned it. One of my guests wanted some cheap wine and they didnt have it so someone ran to the store to get it! I just can not say enough about them! Check my review for tons of pics and my recap video!

Re: Reception Halls
Basically, IMO, one of the biggest factors in choosing a hall on LI is price. You can spend anywhere from $40 to $200 per person. Unfortunately, I am on a limited budget so I had much more narrow list of choices. If you want to hear about some nice places for under $70 per person, feel free to let me know! I am very happy with my choice!
