Irish Brides.....Question about reception music

My FI and I are both Irish...My FI is half...his Dad really wants the song "Danny Boy" played at the reception.....I think this song is quite depressing and have never heard it played at a wedding reception...I sugguested to my FI that we incorporate it into the mass but his Dad wants it at the reception.....Where in the reception does this song fit???

Re: Irish Brides.....Question about reception music

I thought that was played at funerals. Maybe I'm a confused Irish person.

Yeah usually...but apparently it becomes a sing along in his family

I mean don't get me wrong...I do want to celebrate with some Irish music...but I wasn't sure wherethis fit in

I guess if it's a family thing, then do it during dinner. Or, just coming out of dinner. Or near the end of the night when the Irish have been drinking and will sing real loud.

I wouldn't do it during the middle because that's for dancing. You could also leave it up to the band/dj. They know how to read a crowd.

Thats true...maybe right after dinner...or at the end would be good....and then we will have to follow it will something upbeat...so people aren't depressed

Right after dinner sounds like a good time. We're having bagpipers come in then since my FH is Irish and my FFIL plays the bagpipes. It's a good time because it won't interrupt the dancing.
