Do you tip the preist (if your getting married in the church)?
I've been getting mixed answers on this, some say yes, some say no, some say give him a gift.... uhm, what kind of gift? What are you ladies doing? And if you tip the preist, how much?

Re: Do you tip the preist (if your getting married in the church)?
You don't "tip" the priest, but you do give a donation to the church.
We plan on giving the church a donation of $350-$400.
You do "tip" the alter boys - a few bucks if you have them. We're giving them each $50.

Re: Do you tip the preist (if your getting married in the church)?
You give the priest a "gift" as well, in addition to the church donation. Keep in my mind that you also tip the altar boys, the organist, and whoever else is there...I know its crazy but thats how it is.

Think it's pretty funny that they call it a "DONATION" When they tell you how much to give.. IMO it's just rediculous!!

Wow 850 that is alot I was complaining about my $350. I also get charged a $50 late fee - but get this they ask for it up front. My sister wasnt late to the church and has yet to receive her 50 back - 3yrs. later.
BTW - not tipping the priest, I am tipping alter boys and organist/musicians.

Re: Do you tip the preist (if your getting married in the church)?
Yeah the whole donation that is specified really is annoying to me. If we have alter servers could be girls you know, I used to be an alter server, we would give them something. Priest not so much

Re: Do you tip the preist (if your getting married in the church)?
Our chuch requires a $750 "donation". This does not include the priest "tip". For music, a $250 fee is required as well as tipping the altar boys.;

This may be a totally random and weird question....but are these "donations" we have to give to the church tax deductible?

Re: Do you tip the preist (if your getting married in the church)?
Our "donation" is $500 and he said if we wanted a singer it would be more, not sure how much more yet
I'll be tipping the altar servers and musicians. I'm not tipping the priest/deacon.

They should be. Most religious donations are.

Re: Do you tip the preist (if your getting married in the church)?
Your priest is independent from the donation you are making to the actual church. So if you have a special relationship or feel your priest has helped you through this time, I think a gift would be nice. For example, we're getting our priest tickets to a Mets game (he's a fan). I think it's a nice gesture. And you really should tip your alter boys - they are donating their time.

my church is asking 650 i think that is crazy! To make a sacremant of marriage in the church costs that much. It makes me so aggrevated.
