i liked the kitchen sets at Jc penney- my white wood set was from there - i love it!
we used crate and barrel for the dining room set- the "at home assembly" furniture- easy to assemble and very good prices- also very stylish

i love domain, pottery barn and restoration hardware stuff, but totally can't afford it! but we've been frequenting raymour and flanigan and have seen some things that we are really liking.

be careful with domain - i have a bed frame from Audi (a stickley dealer in the city) and a month later after buying it in Audi, i saw the same bed frame for 3 times the price

Fortunoffs has some nice stuff too - we bought a couch from them and wanted a kitchen set (but they didnt' have a color to match our cabinets). Also West Elm
