One or Two (with poll)
So I visited with a photographer last night and he said if I wanted photojournalistic and traditional photos you need two photographers. My mom thinks this is a crock of you know what. Are you using one or two photographers.

Re: One or Two (with poll)
We have one photographer and one lighting assistant. The photographer does both traditional portraits and photojournalism. I believe most good photographers should do both.
Photojournalism is the latest 'buzzword' If you contract a photographer for 5 hours they aren't going to take formal portraits for the whole time, obviously they capture other things.
If you have a huge wedding party, or require tons of formal pics, or want tons of table pics or something then I would get two photographers. Otherwise a well trained, practiced and skilled photographer should do both.

Re: One or Two (with poll)
Right now we booked one photog, one assistant. He does the "traditional" shots of the BP and fam, but the rest of the time he shoots with a candid style. He's the first out of the 4 photogs that I interviewed that said he'll do a photojournalistic style and actually does it. If we book the 2nd photog, we'll just get more candid shots than by just having him. So your mom is right, it's a crock of it! Let me know if you want my photogs #, he's passionate about his work and very confident. Out of all my vendors, I trust him the most.

Re: One or Two (with poll)
We had 2 with no assistant. With that said, any good photographer, even a photojournalistic one (like Christina Bohn, Marianela Vera or Angelica Glass) should be able to shoot "traditional" shots such as family portraits in addition to wonderful PJ/candid shots.
I also love azoodie's pics (her review is posted) she hired a PJ photog named Terry Alcantara (and I think it wasn't that $$) and her pics from him are amazing!

Re: One or Two (with poll)
We have two, and a lighting assistant. Not only did we want a specialist in PJ style, but we also know that one photographer can't be two places at once. With only one photographer there is no way to photograph the bride coming down the aisle and the groom's reaction.
As for the lighting assistant, even though our ceremony is in the afternoon, we want to take pictures at our reception hall. CH begins at 7 PM -sunset is at 6:20. We want to be able to capture sunset, and some evening shots as the guests are escorted from CH to the reception.

Re: One or Two (with poll)
We are using 1. If we had more $$ it would be 2. I think it's fine to only have one, tho. My FH thinks 2 is crazy, but I don't...just the more the merrier Ask if they can show you weddings that had only one photographer. I did this with 12th Night and I feel fine about it now that I saw the work 1 is capable of!

We're having 2 & an asst. We felt this was the only thing we'd have after the wedding, we didn't want them to miss any shots & wanted the photojournalistic as well.

Re: One or Two (with poll)
i had my wedding ceremony on June 5th and teh reception in July. for the first date i had two photographers. one, who is a friend took only photo journalistic pix and the other guy who is from Wedding Group One did both traditional and journalistic photos. reason why i had my friend take pix is because i really trust his style and they came out great. plus what bride doesn't want more pics, right? the guy i hired, like i said, did both and he did a great job. for the 2nd date i had one.. which is the same WGO guy. i agree w your mother. it's a crock of poo. a photographer can def do both - that's if he's well-skilled in both.
this guy you're looking at, is he only able to do traditional (or journal) because he doesn't know how to do both? in any case, if you're not comfortable with hiring two guys for this task then look elsewhere for a photographer suitable to you. becuase a photographer can do both. mine did.

Re: One or Two (with poll)
One Photog who did everything plus an asst and a lighting asst.
the asst was very helpful in setting up the shot and looking for other creative shots during the day.

Re: One or Two (with poll)
It's not a crock. usually the photojournalist is shooting the same moments but from a different perspective. We are using Artisan and Chuck said if we don't add a photojournalist he can still; take some photojournalistic shots, but it won't be the same amount. Like if one photopgrapher takes 1000 shots, and then you ask him to take photojournalistic shots, you'll still have only 1000 shots, some photojournalistic, some formal, candid, etc... or maybe less, since swtiching cameras takes time etc (Most photographers I spoke to use a medium format color camera for formals and a 35mm black and white for photojournalistic shots), whereas if you add a 2nd photographer, you'll end up with more shots, your first guy will still take his 1000 and the scond will tkae however many he is going to take.
Not a crock at all, but it's not necessary. if you don't like photojournalistic shots you don't need to add the 2nd photogrpaher. I really love it, so I am definitely having both,. HTH
