Catholic brides who already did pre-cana

Did you do the 'engaged encounter' weekend (where you stay overnight) or the one where you go a few times? Do you think one would be more worthwhile than the other? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

FH and I did the Engaged Encounter in Virginia. It was 'intense' but there were parts we really liked. You get matched with a roommate of the same gender, mine was really cool, FH's was not.

Re: Catholic brides who already did pre-cana

We did the one day session (it was the last one offered by the Archdiocese of NY). My FH originally wanted to do the weekend but, I really didn't want to do it and share a room with someone I didn't know.

Re: Catholic brides who already did pre-cana

we did the one day all day pre cana
I did not like it, but I was glad to get it over with. I know that must sound terrible, But I didnt have the time or money to do the engaged encounter...I would imagine you would get more out of the weekend one than the one day one

We did the engaged encounter weekend. We enjoyed it although it was a very long weekend, with no down time.

Re: Catholic brides who already did pre-cana

fh and i did the shortest, easiest one we could find (LOL)... pre-cana didn't mean a lot to us, we enjoyed the focus test much more than the actual pre-cana class.
it was a one day thing on a saturday from like 9am-4pm in long beach and that was it, we watched videos, ate pizza for lunch, talked about how we met, and he blessed my ring and we were done...
but if pre-cana is something that you think you'll enjoy or would benefit from then go for it-- i have to say, as bad as i thought it was going to be, we did have fun and laughed a lot with the other couples...sometimes laughing AT the videos rather than with them but oh well!
good luck

Re: Catholic brides who already did pre-cana

We met four times (once weekly for a month), and I liked it. The sessions were 2 hours each, but they flew by. I enjoyed the once a week. It was nice to have it broken up a bit and not confined to one day.

Re: Catholic brides who already did pre-cana

I did EE and I think it's better since it's completed faster and I don't have to worry about the additional meetings (my schedule is crazy). Fh is a Marine and we didn't really have any other option.

It's a little intense (non-stop) but we made it fun for ourselves.

Re: Catholic brides who already did pre-cana

No, we did not. We did a one time 8 hour pre cana. I wasn't comfortable with staying overnight since I heard it is like going to camp where they seperate the guys from the girls (not sure if it's true). The full eight hour pre cana was very fulfilling. It was given by an older couple who have been married for almost 50 yrs and still so much in love. It was so sweet! Lol

Re: Catholic brides who already did pre-cana

We did three weeks of pre-cana with our Church with 4 other couples. We enjoyed this because we weren't rushed, it lasted 2.5 hours each Sunday evening. We met at a couples house that was running the program and it went over really well!

We also did the weekly meetings. They weren't bad, but we are glad that it's over.

Re: Catholic brides who already did pre-cana

we did it in the city, 4 weeks of 2 hour classes. honestly, we didn't get much out of it. it was lecture style and we had a hard time relating to the "message"
