NWR: I lost my job!!

Hi everyone.. I lost my job yesterday and with only 7 months till our wedding, I'm really nervous. This job was perfect and everything was finally starting to come together.

I'm so depressed now. I can't believe I'm looking for a job again when I just started this one in January.

Thanks everyone! I am still shocked that I could lose a job I loved so fast. I have a clear conscience knowing I didn't do anything wrong to lose the job. They just said I wasn't a "fit."...whatever that means. I was really excited about it but I guess it wasn't meant to be. Please keep me in your thoughts as I start this search and plan a wedding at the same time.

I would also like to say a special thanks to the kind man in Starbucks who bought me a hot chocolate yesterday when I was crying over my lost job.

The same thing happen to me in december, I was out of a job for three weeks. Thank god I found another one, I am losing out $140 more on a pay check at this job. Keep searching, you will find something. I called alot of places, don't lose hope.

I lost my job last Spring. Also not because of anything I did...but it still *****. While you are looking for another job, maybe you can do temp work to bring in some sort of income.

First things first...file for Unemployment Insurance... you should qualify and at least it'll be some money.

Second, think about what you want to do...and go after it. Sounds a lot harder than it is. Because you have everything to gain, apply to "dream" companies or "dream jobs" and hope for the best (that's how I ended up at my current company).

Then update your resume and apply, apply, apply. Go on monster.com, hotjobs.com, craiglist, NYTimes.com, careerbuilder.com, etc.

Speak to friends and see if anyone has referrals or if companies are hiring...see this as a great opportunity to go after something you really want.

I'm pretty sure you have to be employed with the company for at least 3 months in order to be eligible to collect....I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure thats how it works.

I'm so sorry! There's so many people here, though, maybe if you mention what you do, someone here might know of a job in your field. You never know what can happen! Good luck with finding a new job - I know it sounds like a cliche but everything really does happen for a reason!

Thanks for your support. I'm not sure if I can collect unemployment because I only had this job for a month. However, I really appreciate all the help you are giving me. I have a BBA in Marketing and International Business. Please let me know if you see anything that I would like. With 7 months to go before getting married, this could not have happened at a worse time.

As for the unemployment insurance, they don't just look at the very last job, they look at jobs before that. I don't remember the numbers (and I'm sorry, but I'm too lazy to get up and look them up) - but you need to have X number of weeks of qualifying employment. If you were collecting before you got this job, and didn't collect the full number of weeks you're entitled to, you can go back and refile.
