would you guys be pissed?

I have, who i thought was a very good friend tell me that she cannot come to the wedding b/c it's her 30th bday and she may or may not have plans to celebrate it with people... I was a bit perturbed, but i guess people's true colors come out.

That's insane..I would be soo pissed. There's no reason ahy shew can;t celebrate her birthday on another day. This is your wedding day. Once in a lifetime. If she doesn't want to be there for you, then you're right it's her true colors coming out..

Is she married? Maybe she's just jealous or she'll feel depressed reaching her 30th birthday not being married, etc. Some people are like that

she can celebrate her 30th another night.....if she is a good friend she would not miss your wedding for anything...I would be pissed!

My wedding is on my godmother's 60th bday and I don't hear her complaining. She's looking forward to having a big party to go to the night of her bday.

Um, is she kidding? Seriosly, if someone told me that I would laugh at them and think it was a joke. She couldn't come up with a better excuse.

I'd be a little annoyed. We have plenty of b-days throughout our lives, this is your wedding it's not like you get to do this again the following year. If she really wants to celebrate it can't she do it another day.

Honestly, I don't know if I would. I guess I would be a little hurt, but some people take their birthdays VERY seriously. Specially those milestone birthdays you know. But why couldn't she have a bday party for herself b4 or after the wedding. I don't know maybe you're not high on her priority list, so she shouldn't be on yours either! Either way don't sweat it, the people who love you will be there!

Yeah i think i feel that way... although she did tell a mutual friend who is coming to the wedding when the subject came up that she (mutual friend) is gonna have a hard time choosing which event to attend. Mutual friend was like you've gotta be kidding me

My friend got married on July 4th a few years ago - we weren't best friends, but good friends - and I gave up my entire weekend and plans to be at her wedding - and she had an early wedding. My date (which she let me bring even though I was single) wound up having to leave early, and since I drove him there, I had to leave early - and I had nothing to do that evening because I just made no plans - but, I wanted to be there for my friend! I was so upset about having to leave, but at least I got to be there - I never said - oh - how inconvenenient, or - oh, I have other things to do on that day...

I happen to be very sensitive about my birthday. But quite honestly, if a good friend of mine was getting married on my 30th birthday it wouldn't bother me in the least. But as you said, people's true colors definitely come out.

Hey, it's one less person for you to have to pay for.

I would be pissed. I have a friend that said it's her birthday weekend (she'll be 27), so she doesn't know if she'll come. I need people to say no - so I don't care either way if she does come or not.

people get weird around weddings. people who talk about how they are going to go all year long suddenly have something come up.

my philosophy is... if they REALLY care they will make it there!

If this was a "good" friend of mine and that was her excuse, I would be pissed. Birthdays are important, but come on, I have celebrated MANY birthdays on a day other than my "actual" b-day.

I had a similar situation with a friend of mine. I had a choice of having my wedding on 6/8 and my friend's birthday is 6/9 and the party would technically end on 6/9 because it is ending at 12:30. I didn't pick that date because she would turn it into HER DAY and it is supposed to me mine. Her 30th birthday is more than a year away and she is already planning on what she is doing. She has had about 3 different plans for her birthday already.

oppsie, I'm not going to FH's coworkers engagement party cause it's my 25th but he's alittle more far removed than a close friend. I totally understand why you would be pissed

that stinks!! i mean sure, her 30th birthday is special... but she can't celebrate the next weekend or the night before or something?? thats really not cool of her!
this reminds me of one of my BMs- at my shower, she left early because she had go celebrate her FIs 30th birthday. first off, my shower was early afternoon like from 2-5 or something... she couldn't just wait till afterwards?? or the next night or something? i guess it just hurts me because for her shower about a month before mine, i went early to set up, and stayed late to help clean up.... would an extra 45 minutes at my shower really have killed her??
