new job

Is it a bad idea to start a new job in the midst of all the wedding madness? I don't necessarily need the job since I already have one that I've been with for years. But I've been thinking about leaving for a while. I'm not happy with the company I work for now and the new one seems much better and has better benefits and they seem to treat their employees a lot better too. I don't know what to do because my current job is very flexible. I can take off when I want and basically work when I want. I seriously doubt I'll have the same flexibility starting a new job, even if I will be management. I thought of waiting until after all the festivities, but this new job is available now.....

Re: new job

I have the same dilemma. I'm thinking of transferring but I don't know if it's such a great idea at this time. I have the same deal at my current job: i can leave early when i want, take off when I want etc...and I don't know if that will be the same if I go somewhere else. You're in a somewhat better position because u already have something lined up, whereas I don't. So if this new job seems worth it I would go for it...HTH

Re: new job

I don't see an issue with taking a new job, as long as you tell them up front about the time you will need off for your wedding. I would say the majority of businesses would be understanding about that. Even if you don't have vacation time yet, you will just have to take that time off unpaid. But if in the long run, you will be making more money and be happier at this job, its worth the two unpaid weeks.

Re: new job

I just started my job 12/1...although I was unemployed for many months before that...so it wasn't as if I was leaving 1 job for another. I'd say if this new job is available and you really want it, go for it. Just make sure they know you are getting married.

Re: new job

I changed jobs 3 TIMES since I got engaged. Each time I was upfront about needing the time off, and every time on every interview I went on, they were okay with it.

You would be surprised how flexible companies can be if they want you badly enough.
