Repost from '06 board - Gown Preservation Question

I bought my wedding dress back in mid-November 2005 for the wedding in October 2006. Since it was a David's Bridal dress, I took it home that day and its in my closet as we speak.

Someone mentioned to me a few days ago at work that I really should have it preserved immediately (before alterations, etc) because it can yellow.

I didn't know this - is this true? My gown is ivory and would hate to have it discolor. I was going to have it preserved after the wedding and never thought about having to do this asap.

Your help is really appreciated - I'm starting to freak out a bit about this.

Re: Repost from '06 board - Gown Preservation Question

I've never heard of preserving it before wearing it - I thought once it is preserved it is boxed up.
I got my gown thru Netbride so I had to store it at my mom's for a couple of months -it was fine. Just leave it in a closet with the garment bag opened a quarter of the way.

I would also like to know about this, as my dress will be shipped to me in 6 weeks, and my wedidng is in September.
My dress is ivory too!

Re: Repost from '06 board - Gown Preservation Question

think about it--bridal shops hold on to dresses ALL THE TIME before the wedding and they don't preserve it. keep it away from sun and humidity and keep the bag slightly opened and it will be fine

Re: Repost from '06 board - Gown Preservation Question

Thanks Ladies - I haven't been keeping the bag 1/4 of the way open. I'll start doing that.

And yes, it seemed strange to me but I don't know about these type of things. Someone telling me my dress can turn yellow scared me a bit.
