photographer proofs
is this wierd? i had a photographer, not a vendor on here, and i decided to cancel today. luckily i didnt sign anything or put any money down.
there were a few reasons i cancelled: his communication was a little off. it would sometimes take a few days for him to get back to me by email. then i scheduled a meeting and he had to cancel. i was pretty annoyed about that, b/c i took off of work. but he drove out to the house and i really really liked his pics, so i decided on him.
first he gives us a contract which has nothing about price, hours he is there, what is included etc. so i emailed him back and he fixed it, but i noticed something about the proofs that i did not understand. so i call and he explains it like this:
you get a cd with your proofs, not high res, but 100 kb, and they are all colour. you then pick out what ones you want to be turned into black and white and after that he prints up your proofs. i found that really strange. i do not have an eye for what should be black and white. i mean shadows and stuff really play a part in that. plus i need to look at pictures not low resolution proofs first.
do you find that a bit wierd? i can understand getting a CD as well as your proofs, but i have never heard of that before.
so i went with my second choice, who is still available.

Re: photographer proofs
i think you made the right decision b/c no matter how odd whatever he offers may seem to you, if you feel deep down that something is just not right then you did the best thing possible with going to another place! why worry when you don't have to??

Re: photographer proofs
That sounds very fishy, I think you made the right decision to go with your second choice.

Re: photographer proofs
You're talking about Henry Chan, right? I think I remember Suespace from Indiebride (the NYC vendors thread) trying to decide about him and bringing that up. It's not too weird -- most digital photographers give you low-res CDs to view your proofs. But it seems lazy, in a way, because he is not giving you any artistic input into which look better in b&w. Or is not even showing you them in b&w at all (my photographer is giving me lo-res "proofs" but in both color and b&w). So I think you were right for canceling if you didn't feel comfortable.

yeah thats the one. i misunderstood and didnt realise it until i was ready to sign the contract. i thought i got the proofs in print form then a low res CD of the proofs. which i thought was ok, even though i would have preferred hi-res, but you cant have everything.
i do think it is kind of lazy. i do not have the ability to decide what should be black and white etc. i need that help and that articstic input.
