Re: NWR: Womanly issues - please help if you can!!!

For your current issue you can go to a general practioner. He/She can prescribe medication for your UTI. I don't live in LI so I am no help in the gyno department. Sorry

Re: NWR: Womanly issues - please help if you can!!!

I always went to my general practitioner for UTI's because they could always see me right away and they were more conveniently located. Wish I could give you a name for a OBGYN in your area - but I am in the city and the only one I went to on LI is in Rockville Center.

Yep, I go to my regular doc for that stuff. I love him but he's in Wantagh. That's a little far but I know he would take care of you.

Re: NWR: Womanly issues - please help if you can!!!

aww happens to me all the time. I have had kidney infections, i have been in the ER and I have seen various specialists.
First, you don't have to go to an obgyn to get a prescription for macrobid or bactrim or whatever you get. I just go to my gp. second get a spare perscription of peridium to keep on hand at all times, or by uristat, the over the counter version.
Drink more water, take cranberry pills, decrease alcohol and caffeine intake as they are diurretics. Go to the bathroom often and make a point of going after sex.
when you see the doctor ask for a preventative prescription. you will just take one before sex or if you feel it coming on. Then you won't have to go to the doctor everytime it happens.
good luck and i soo feel for you.

Re: NWR: Womanly issues - please help if you can!!!

Ladies - thanks for the helpful responses!

Funny - I always went to my gyno for this, but I called one that JanuaryBride gave me (thank you JanuaryBride - someone answered right away - just like my last gyno office - I made an appt with them for April for a checkup, by the way!), and the secratary told me to go to my primary care physician - I don't even have one, so now I'll look around for that under my insurance number.

I actually right now am taking cranberry pills, which I got lax about, but started up again, and bought PURE cranberry juice - very expensive, about 9.00 a bottle from the heakth food store - nothing at all but cranberries, thats it - I have to dilute it with water because it is so tart, it's almost like drinking lemon juice - it just puckers you up like crazy!!!

Re: NWR: Womanly issues - please help if you can!!!

I would see my regular Dr. for a UTI, but I can give you a name of an OB/GYN -
Dr. Sterlacci- she is with Suffolk OB/GYN. They have a few different offices in Suffolk, but the one I go to is on Main Street in Smithtown. You can get an appt there in a reasonable amount of time and don't have to wait forever when you get there. She is also very thourough. I don't have the number with me, but if you want it send me an FM.

Re: NWR: Womanly issues - please help if you can!!!

There's an over the counter pill that is for when you can't get to the doc. It's supposed to help. UTI's are the worst. I had one that ended up being a kidney infection. UUGGGHHHH!!

My general practioner has given me meds for UTI. I have never gone to gyno for this reason.

Re: NWR: Womanly issues - UPDATE

Whatever you do, stay AWAY from Huntington Medical Group. I used Dr. Simon there until she turned so nasty. She YELLED at me for having fibroids, a cyst and endometriosis. Ok, how is that my fault? Those things are not STDs and the causes are not known! I really think she was covering up b/c it was really bad before it was diagnosed, had to have been there for several years and I'd been going to her for a while.

Sorry to vent, but I will never forget being yelled at while finding out I needed surgery!

I now go to a practice in Stony Brook that I love. My Dr. is male but his partner is female. It's probably too far, but FM me if you want info.

Re: NWR: Womanly issues - UPDATE

Even though you already got an answer, I'm adding to this post in case you don't like the recommendation after you go and meet her. Suffolk OB/GYN - Huntington office, right on East Main Street, Dr. Grow-now (that is phonetic spelling). My sister uses her and absolutely loves her. I use one of the male MD's at that office (he delivered me when he was still a resident, waaay back when ), but since you insist on a female I won't recommend him. When I call for an appointment it is generally scheduled for the following week. If I have a problem they take me immediately.
