Re: Do vendors give you prices based on
Yes, I think they do. I base this on the fact that to decorate (flowers) for certain spaces you will need more and others will need less, it just depends upon the size of the room and especially the height of the ceilings. Some people may say for larger rooms you would need more band members/ dj speakers, but I think you can turn up the volume on the speakers b/c how can a soloist make a big sound at lincoln center? so for somethings - yes others - no.

Re: Do vendors give you prices based on
Yes, they definitely do. I guess it could be based on the size of the room, but I was also thinking that maybe they base their prices on how much they think you are already spending (JMO).

Re: Do vendors give you prices based on
In my case, most of them didn't know the size of the room. They heard "temple wedding" and upped the prices. And it was mostly photographers that did this. I didn't shop around for flowers much b/c I knew who I wanted to use.

Re: Do vendors give you prices based on
while we didn't have that issue since our hall was not a "hoity-toity" venue, I wouldn't doubt for a second that some vendors would do that.
ETA: if you're getting married in December, you should have a lot of room for negotiating! there is a LOT of competition in this biz. any vendor would be foolish to try and take you for a ride when you can simply say "thanks, bye bye".

Absolutely. I got a $6K flower quote based on a venue we considered and I got a $2500 flower quote for the exact same flowers from a different vendor to whom I did not tell the location

Re: Do vendors give you prices based on
I hope not!! Maybe I am just being niave but I know my vendors are not! My band was recommended by a close friend who got married at a temple in a very nice town and I know for a fact that they are charging me (I am getting married in my parents backyard...definatly not $$) the same as her. I can't believe that some vendors do this!

Re: Do vendors give you prices based on
Hmmm, good question. I don't know. For almost all my vendors I booked ones that has pre-printed price sheets that I received before an appointment and before they knew the venue.

That was also my favorite way to book!!! And I can't say that any of the vendors that I actually used were upping their prices!

Re: Do vendors give you prices based on
I found that once they found out we were having our reception at a "expensive" place, they assumed we had money to burn and over charged us,
I was recommended to a florist by my MOH and she got married a year before me, I wanted a similar lay out and the quote the guy gave me was 5K more then hers, her reception was held at a similar size venue, but not considered an "expensive" place.
I think that they think if you can afford to get a great hall, then you will pay more money for the rest.
I now tell them a less expensive place get the quote then on the secon visit tell them my real place, this helps me to see the difference...I know it sneaky ..
