Re: best way to clean your engagement ring
you can buy a jewelry steamer. works great and is safe for the rings. that's what the jewelers use to clean the rings.

I use windex and a soft toothbrush.
YES!! Windex (or 3 parts water to 1 part ammonia) and warm water...soak for 5 minutes and brush.
Careful with toothpaste, it can have particles that will scratch. best bet is 1 part ammonia 3 parts water, and a soft toothbrush.

Re: best way to clean your engagement ring
I am reposting what I said on another message about diamond cleaning:
I belong to a message board about diamonds and rings with over 8000 members and the overwhelming consensus is that ULTRASONIC cleaners are best... along with steam of any kind, and ammonia to an extent. The person above who said that windex leaves a residue is right - my gemologist friend said that as well even if it isn't immediately obvious.
The ammonia by itself is fine but CAN degrade certain metals over time. Also there is an UNBELIEVABLY GREAT cleaner called GemCare that is a natural botanical but actually works better than dish detergent and makes diamonds stay clean longer!!! FM me if you want info. My other friend who is an appraiser gave that to me.
ETA: I forgot to mention that I just bought tiny lipstick brushes to clean under my center diamond since it hangs in the setting and there is so much detail - it really helps!
Here is a pic I took of my diamond RIGHT AFTER being cleaned in the GemCare and before we set it into our precious ring!

Re: best way to clean your engagement ring
Oh one more thing, even though it's silly hehe - don't forget to RINSE WITH COLD WATER after using a cleaner or dip.
Then IMMEDIATELY blow on your diamond and setting right after cleaning from ALL ANGLES and use a lint free cloth to wipe the ring, it really helps. Then you can use a blow dryer on a cool or warm setting so there aren't any water spots that show. I've found that the most stunning results happen this way - crazy but true haha!
I'm not ashamed to love the symbols of our love and gorgeous sparklies!

Re: best way to clean your engagement ring
I meant to ask, does anyone know WHY toothpaste is supposed to work so well? There are so many ingredients obviously but I always wondered which one they say helps.

Re: best way to clean your engagement ring
HI LADIES, I WAS DOING A SOME WEB RESEARCH ABOUT WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO KEEP OUR RINGS SPARKLY AND I CAME ACROSS THIS......
Do not use ammonia on gold or any other jewelry, it crystallizes the metal and makes it more prone to crack/break. Especially on prongs.
DON'T KNOW IF ITS TRUE, WOULD NEED TO ASK A JEWELER. KUST THOUGHT YOU MAY WANT TO KNOW.
