Greetings from Dallas, Texas (Mom Update)

YEE-HAW Ladies!

I arrived in Dallas last night and saw Mom throughout her visiting hours today. She is at a top notch facility where (and I am not lying here) any one of us could feasibly do a wedding in the atrium/lobby - it is THAT beautiful.

Anyway, Mom was rather groggy and disoriented this morning @10am but she knew who I was and was somewhat glad to see me. She is in an ICU unit so the nurse/patient ratio is small and her needs are being tended to quite diligently. Not any better or any worse than they would be if she was in a top NY hospital. As the day progressed, her speech was more intelligible and her awareness of her surroundings was more clear. She was cranky and agitated but not in pain - just discomfort. They said she isnt on pain meds which is good because people get addicted to that stuff.

I was able to show her the pictures from my first fitting and she was happy to see them. She knows we have plans to see the florist this week and my hair trials but I assured her that I would send pictures so when my OTHER sister arrives, she will show them to her. I am trying to keep her in the loop as much as possible.

The last visiting hour was from 8-10 but Mom was zonked so we left early. It is also an hour earlier here.

Nitty gritty - I am very confident in our decision to have mom's surgery in Dallas. To have moved her prematurely for the sake of our convenience would have been disastrous for her and for us. She has a long road to recovery but I am also confident that she will be at my wedding. Thats all I want. Even if she doesn't walk down the aisle with me, it would be equally as wonderful to see her face at the end of the aisle in a wheelchair.

It must have been good to see her and it sounds like she is doing pretty well. How long are you down there?

I am coming back on Monday. She will be here for a few weeks and I dont think I will be able to come back again. My sister who is with me now is going back tomorrow. My OTHER sister is coming on Monday night (after I am gone) and staying all week. My brother will follow if need be.

Leslie- I'm very happy to hear your Mom is in such a great facility. It must ease your mind to be able to see for yourself what kind of care she is receiving; as well as seeing your mom in person. I'll continue to keep your family in my prayers and look forward to more good news from you.
