Anyone have any great reception halls that might be available this summer??
I went to a few places and the prices are unbelievable.
The avergae price I heard was 75pp+tax and service.
Any words of wisdom?

Re: reception halls
is that a lot to you? You won't find anything cheaper on LI - sorry - I know none cheaper for you than that. That is a fabulous price! What kind of places offer such a low price???

Re: reception halls
75 per person is really actually pretty low for Long Island. I don't think I went to a single place that quoted me below 100pp, and I looked at a pretty wide range of places. (I'm talking about a Saturday night though, I don't know what day of the week you were looking at) The prices will be higher for me because I was booking further in advance, but still. I don't know of a single catering hall that charges less than 75pp, most charge more.
It's really shocking when you first start looking how expensive things are around here, but that's pretty much the price of getting married on Long Island.
The only way I can think of to go lower is to try a place that isn't geared towards weddings, like a private room at a restaurant or something - that might be less expensive. But then you might not get many of the things you get included at a lot of catering halls (like the cake, for example).
good luck!

Re: reception halls
i meant 75 without the food or the cake. My mom is a caterer and she is going to do my reception from her company, so the food was free for me. This 75pp was just to rent the place, but I guess long island is expensive! thanks

Re: reception halls
wait 75 pp without food?!
you should pay a flat fee then as a location fee. it should not be a pp fee.
I would look at other places. I would not pay where it's pp.
check out www.weddingsitesandservices.com
you can look at various places and see if you can bring in your own caterer. and they tell you the location fee or average fee.
but I would not go anyplace that charges you pp.
if that's the case, check out some vineyards. you can bring in who you want for foods and there are flat rental fees of the places.

Re: reception halls
That's great that your mom is doing the catering.
One suggestion, I'm not sure if this is a good thing for August or not since it might be hot, my cousin rented a nice large tent and tables and chairs (they came and set everything up) and he had a nice reception in my grandfather's backyard for about 115 people. They hired a bartender and waiters/waitresses, bought the alcohol themselves and it ended up costing under 20k, including food, cake, ceremony, etc.
The actual function itself was ok but, with the right vendors could've been wonderful. The dj was about 80 years old.

Re: reception halls
that sounds strange to me to pay per person to rent the space. most places have a flat fee. the vineyards start at $4000, but you can pay less for the food and drink than at a hall. i think in the end it probably works out to a similar price.

Re: reception halls
It all depends on how many people you're having at the wedding.
A lot of places knock the price down a lot if your having a big wedding.
My wedding is 550 people, so ofcourse its half the price!

Your having yours at crest hollow, I was told 75+pp there without food and was told 40+pp at huntington town house with out food.. the hyatt told me about 55+pp and hilton was about 55+pp all with out food..
so now my FH wants huntindton town house, b/c it works out to about 30,000 for about 500 people with out food but includes the dessert show and cake and drinks for the wedding and reception for a saturday??

Re: reception halls
Mary -
They give you a rate on the phone, that doesn't mean you can't bargain!!
If you're having 500 people, theres no way you should be paying $75/head!!
Go there and talk to the managers, they're always looking for more business... so they'll work with you.
Huntington Townhouse will quote you low, but don't forget they want 100% of your $ ahead of time!! (which my dad was completely against).
You can go to Crest Hollow, speak to Mitch - he'll lower the price for you.

Re: reception halls
Thats not true about Huntington Townhouse. I only had to give them a depsoit and then make payments as we go along. I also booked in the 75 pp price range but I also have about 300 ppl

Re: reception halls
NEVER EVER EVER pay in full, that is why I am in the jam I am in. They get you hooked in on the low prices, but if you have any problems, as drastic as a death in the family, they will not give you your money back. ALWAYS go with a payment option. Trust me I learned the hard way!!

Re: reception halls
Wait... I don't get it... If you are getting it catered???
Why don't you just go somewhere that you ONLY have to pay a site fee and then get a caterer separately...
Like Oheka... There is a 10,000 site fee... But in reality that is all your paying since your mom is doing the catering...
Right???
Why pay 30,000 for somewhere w/o food...???
Maybe I am confused...
