met with duet- confused and concerned!!!

to anyone using duet ..i need your help.
so i made an appt to meet with eric today. i went with fi and was told eric wasnt there..but his sister in law..i think her name was sue spoke with us instead. i was kinda bummed cause i really wanted to meet with him. this is what we were origianlly quoted... for photo and video for 10 hr... with our album ( no parent albums) ..only one big framed pick.. 50 thank yous , 3 dvds..and 500-600 proofs...... 3799.00

oh also i said we dont need the thank you's and she said they would take 50 dollars off ( but i read on here somewhere that their invites they price as 3 dollars each so it should have been 150 off? am i wrong??)

when i asked how much for a parent album she said she thought around 300 for the small simple one..but when i asked what about one like ours just alot smaller(ie digital) she said she would have to ask eric. e-pics were quoted at 200.


so lets say 3800 plus 300 for ONE parent album..i was thinking its now 4100..anf if we want epics 4300.

okay so i asked to to call eric and get back to me so see if he could work a deal for us

we left and 30 minutes later she called me on my cell and said eric would do it all for 4500!!

i said i thought you said the one parent album in digital is around 300 and she said no eric said 500. and then epics for 200...... brought it to 4500 plus tax.

i said well then its almost the upgraded package minus 100 dollars and it doesnt seemlike he took much of a price cut for us and she said something like well it would have been 4800 but he took some off... ( then i got to thinking...wait he WOULD have charged for epics and one small digital for a parent album a 1000?? )

it was hard to understand her english and so i said i kinda think it would be better just to talk to eric since he is the one who makes the pricing decisions.


i dont knwo what to think ..... was it just miscommunication?? or does it seem like alot to just get one digital parent album and epics with no invites???
i have heard most duet brides packages are arond 4k.....

so for those of you using duets does this sound right or am i just cheap??

( side note ada photo said they would add or take away a digital parent album for 250 ..so duet is charging twice the amount!!)

so can you tell me when you booked and exactly what you are paying and exactly what you are getting..and does that include tax??

i felt like i was having such a communication problem ( at least that is all i hope it was) cause i really like their work..i just wish i had eric at the appt. like i thought he was going to be.

please help..frazzled and frustrated :(

oh ps... we just realized we dont need 10 hours..we only need 8 1/2 ...should that be part of negotiating as well??

Here is my take. You need to go back and meet Eric. Tell him that you want the 4500 package (this is the one that includes parent albums), but you want the following done.

1) 9 hours
2) only 1 parent album
3) and no thank yous

You also want them to throw in the engagement shoot.

Tell them you are not willing to go over 4100.

This is all miscommunication.

I didn't book Duet, but when I met with them in Aug/Sept, for $3500 I got bride/groom album, 2 parent albums, casual day shoot, sign in board, all proofs in album, thank-you's, 5x7 pics, and wall portrait (might have been 2 of different sizes, I don't remember). So to me, the price quote you got seems high.

I will say I met with Erik, then I emailed back and forth with package changes to get what I wanted included and what I didn't want excluded. I'm pretty sure email went to his SIL. I ultimately did not book them because you cannot meet with your wedding day photographer until he shows up at your wedding.

When I met w/ them I was told the parent albums were $300 (I don't think I specified digital or not). I ended up going w/ an upgraded package anyway. But I think you need to speak w/ Eric b/c he is very flexible and is willing to throw things in and sub things out. If you're still not comfortable w/ them, then don't book them.
