I'm new - Reception hall help
Hi Everyone!! I just got engaged on December 19th I heard such great things from friends about this website so I just couldn't wait to try it! I'm going to start looking at reception halls and wanted to get some suggestions. Specifically, I'm looking for a place that holds only one wedding at a time. Right now I have appointments with: North Ritz Club Milleridge Inn The Metropolitan The Carltun Carlyle on the Green De Seversky Center
Any comments on any of these?? Any other suggestions?
I've also heard that you should negotiate with them...I'm horrible at those things! Do you try to negotiate the price per person or just get them to throw in some extras?
Any help would be great!!! THANKS SO MUCH!

Re: I'm new - Reception hall help
Congrats! We liked the Milleridge Inn when we visited it. If you click on "search" above and put in the name of the hall you want information about, lots of information will come up.

Re: I'm new - Reception hall help
You can negotiate a bit of both, price per person and extra things. I was able to drop the price per person by guaranteeing more people than the required minimum. I also got a few things added that way.
From your list I saw Carlyle and North Ritz. They were both very nice.

Re: I'm new - Reception hall help
Of your list, I've only been to a wedding at the Milleridge and my wedding is at Carlyle on the Green. The Milleridge is great. Very pretty, and great service. Of course, I love the Carlyle.
I've heard good things about the others, I think the best thing to do is for you to look at them and see which one best suits you.
Oh and, everyone is negotiable. We are getting married on a Saturday in March which is significantly less expensive than a Saturday in June. You can get great deals during the "off-season."

Re: I'm new - Reception hall help
hello! congrats!
Not sure where you prefer to have your wedding or the size of it. But we are having our wedding at Floral Terrace. Our wedding is a bit over 400people. We needed to find a place that was closer to Queens (since our cermony will take place there first) and fits our guest list. This fits perfectly. I heard great things about this place and also have one wedding at a time. check it out and see if you like it. The ballroom is so unique and beautiful! Only downer: no outdoor.

Re: I'm new - Reception hall help
I went to the Metropolitan and really liked it. It is not your traditional catering hall. It looks like a space you would find in Manhattan - very elegant. Are you interested in having your ceremony there? They have a beautiful floor to ceiling window in the ceremony area.

Re: I'm new - Reception hall help
We liked the North Ritz Club...but just a bit too big for our wedding.
Metropolitan-similiar to a NYCity style type of place...the food is awesome! I didn't like that the DJ would be behind the bar...and the dance floor was a little too small.
Milleridge Inn-I have heard from my cousin who is getting married there on July 2...that the prices are outstanding..and she still had enough money to get the Viennese hour (I think she is paying $60 pp)

Re: I'm new - Reception hall help
I'm shocked that no one suggested going to www.weddingsitesandservices.com yet! The site give you a lot of the "nitty gritty" in terms of # of affairs, maximums and general price ranges as well as "sample" menus.
I saw several of the places you are visiting and really, you just have to find the place that YOU love! Since you are looking for a 1 wedding at a time place, I will also suggest taking a peak at the Woodlands in Woodbury.
Good Luck and have fun!

Re: I'm new - Reception hall help
I looked at several places (but only one on your list) and it just fit our style.
deSeversky is a different kind of venue, since it is an old mansion and several of the rooms are used. this may or may not be your thing. I loved it (obviously) because we wanted something a little different. FM me if you have any questions about it.
Good luck!
