How do you change your name on credit cards, and other questions...

Just wondering what has to be done to change your name on your credit card?

I already did my health insurance... and I am going to DMV and SS this week... I have to change my name on my paychecks at work... What else is there to do? I guess I should probably go to the post office and file a change of address form? They will contact all my bills and magazines and anything else right?

Too much to do!

no, you contact them..
just call numbers on back of credit cards..and you are done..

your bank will ask for your license..everybody else will change it without question

change of address at the PO is just to change your address (if you moved)

for the credit cards, i just called them. for magazine subscriptions, i would call them. remember the bank too

You need to call everyone. CC's, magazines, and don't forget the title to your car when you go to DMV because that has to change too.

I was able to change all my magazine subscriptions online through the magazines website and credit cards over the phone. My 401k, stock and mutual fund accounts all had to be done with a form and a copy of my marriage licnese. Also to update some of my utilities like the water authority and LIPA I had to mail them a letter with a copy of my marriage license.

I called all my credit card companies and that was enough for them to change it. the only company that required me to do it in writing is Cablevision, everyone else was fine with me just telling them that I have a new last name over the phone.

The credit cards are very easy to do, almost frighteningly easy. Oddly enough, work was the most cumbersome. There were documents I had to get notarized, and then the HR person I left them with retired and half the documents disappeared, so I had to do them again...don't even get me started.

You will also have to change loans and retirement accounts. Both of mine requested letters and copies of my marriage license, but check with your companies, they may be different. And your passport, though that you can mail in with a change form (not what it's called, but I can't remember the name).

Some things you can let slide really, like magazine subscriptions. I'm not bothering to change any of them. When my subscription expires and I renew, then I'll make the correction. I haven't done my checks yet either, though I should. I've found people don't care who they get a check from, as long as it can be cashed!

Oh, I forgot to add, unless you moved, you do not need to file a change of address form with the post office. I still get plenty of mail (mostly catalogs, charitable agencies) with my maiden name. And they won't bother contacting places with your new name.
