NWR--sympathy card ettiquite
Does the recipient on the envenlope have to match the name that you put on the inside of the card? For example, If I call my friend Tommy and never Thomas, but his full name is Thomas, is it okay to put Tommy in the card, and address it as Thomas? Or would you address it as Tommy? Is that too familiar for addressing purposes?
Thanks!

I don't see any reason you shouldn't address it Tommy both in the card and on the envelope. He's your friend - right now I think that ettiquette is the LAST thing on his mind. Besides, if you always call him Tommy, why change that now? He's going through enough change in his life.

Thanks. I actually addressed the envelope before your response and did it the more formal way. I don't know, I just felt like it. But I guess you're right. It's actually my cousin (Tommy was an example) and we're not all that close, but I wanted to let him know he's in my thoughts.
