Re: Ceremony/cocktail hour music
A lot of DJ's will do it for a nominal fee. If you have your heart set on live music, think about having only one musician -harpist, guitarist or pianist - instead of a group of musicians. It's a lot cheaper and sounds just as beautiful.
ETA: Put a post on the vendors board. I did that and got a lot of great responses.

Re: Ceremony/cocktail hour music
You could have a jazz trio or even a piano and acoustic guitar. I think that either one of those would be really nice We are using Soul Revival www.soulrevivalband.com their prices are really resonable and they are wonderful! FM me for pricing

I am using counterpoint-a string trio for $350 (I think) for hospitality and ceremony.

Re: Ceremony/cocktail hour music
We had a band for the reception (Code Bleu) and their price included a piano player at the cocktail hour. We asked them to also help out with music during the ceremony and for only $100 more they did that too.
We basically had a guy set up with a keyboard, speaker system, and a laptop and he played the music we supplied him for each part of the ceremony.
If you're going with a DJ for your reception you should be able to have them do your cocktail hour and ceremony for a nominal amount more. It all depends on how extensive you want to be..
