Are you asking what the price difference would have been between gold and platinum? A few hundred, I'd guess.

The price of a 5 stone ring depends on lots of things, obviously.

They are very popular, so I guess that a lot of girls here have spent good money.

Assuming the diamonds are the same quality - platinum is on average 3 to 4 times more expensive than gold.

What I know is that white gold is not naturally white, it an mixture of gold and another white metal (nickel, silver.. etc). Then they dip it in rhodium to give it more shine. White gold looses it luster after a while, but you can always take it back to the jeweler to get it redipped in rhodium.

Platinum is natually white.

I don't think if you brought that same ring in white gold it'll going to be such a huge price difference... a few hundred dollars?

The ring is gorgeous by the way...

Re: What did you spend on your wedding band?(Ring

my ering has 5 stones, we went to a guy we know at the flea market to price out wedding bands and we are going to have him make my band to fit my ering, it will have diamonds, the same size as my smallest stone on my ering, across the top, white gold setting and yellow gold ring just like my ering and he said it would be around 800-950 depending on the prie of gold when we order. hope that helps. ~lacey

Exactly, so yes, it's a large price significance.

My E.Ring is white gold and so is my band....had i wanted Plantinum, they both would have been well over 10K.

We bought the same ring over the weekend....you can see my post "with this ring". We went to our regular jeweler on 47th St.--the stones match the side stones of my ering (color/size)...fm me for price--its platinum however.

Re: What did you spend on your wedding band?(Ring

Platinum drives up the price significantly. FH's wedding band (white gold) and I think 7MM wide was less than half the price of my 3MM platinum band. Not only is there the difference in the width of the band, but my finger is a 5 1/2, and his is double that. So, he's got a ton more gold than I have platinum, but the cost wasn't even in the same ballpark.

Re: What did you spend on your wedding band?(Ring

I picked this ring at Fortunoff on Saturday. They were asking $3500.00. It is 5 round stones set in platinum. Looks similar to yours. FH is going to get a price from his jeweler. We will probably get a deal since he is a family friend...HTH

Re: What did you spend on your wedding band?(Ring

when i was pricing out wedding bands the difference between the white gold and platinum is about 500-600$ difference in price.
my friend got the 5 stone ring in white gold and she got about 1.75 cts in it and it was about 2k

Yes this is somewhat true. Here is a repost that I wrote a while back:

"WHITE GOLD
Pure Gold is yellow in color. White gold is pure gold that has been combined with mostly white metals to create an alloy with a rich silvery hue. The proportion of gold to other metals is measured in K arats. 18 karat gold is 75% gold; 14 karat gold is 58% gold and 10 karat gold is 42% gold.

White Gold retains a trace of its original golden hue. Therefore white gold jewelry is commonly enhanced with a layer of rhodium, a precious platinum family metal to make it whiter and brighter. Rhodium will wear off over time showing the natural golden hue of the white gold alloy. A periodic reapplication of rhodium is necessary to maintain the bright white finish. The frequency of application necessary is determined by the wearer's individual body chemistry and wear patterns. In rare cases, the required frequency of the reapplication may make platinum a more suitable white metal alternative.

As with all gold, avoid rough wear and contact with chemicals, including chlorine in swimming pools. It is best to have white gold professionally cleaned by your jeweler, though a mild jewelry cleaner and soft cloth may be used at home.

YELLOW GOLD
In its pure form, gold is quite soft, so it is combined with other metals to produce strong alloys appropriate for jewelry. In the United States, these alloys are frequently described in karats. 24 karat is pure gold; 18 karat gold is 75% gold; 14 karat gold is 58% gold and 10 karat gold is 42% gold. The higher the gold content, the softer and more easily marred the jewelry will be.

In rare cases, the alloys may react with the wearer's body chemistry, causing a harmless green or black discoloration on the skin which is easily removed with soap and water.

Avoid scratching, rough wear, and contact with cleansers, bleach and even the chlorine in swimming pools. Yellow gold is best professionally cleaned and polished by your jeweler, though a mild jewelry cleaner and soft cloth may be used at home. Store yellow gold jewelry in a soft cloth or pouch to protect its surface.

PLATINUM
Platinum is amongst the purest and most valuable of the precious metals. It is more rare than gold and nearly twice as heavy.

Platinum in its purest form is one of the only naturally occurring white precious metals that will not tarnish. Platinum is often rhodium plated to provide a bright finish. Rhodium wears off over time, leaving the platinum with a natural soft patina. The rhodium finish may be reapplied or not according to personal preference. Platinum's purity makes it the perfect choice for those with allergies or fro those who have experienced reactions to other metals.

Although platinum is extremely durable, it is not indestructible. It can be scratched, dented, bent or cracked, similar to gold. As with all fine jewelry, it should be treated with care. Avoid rough wear and exposure to abrasives and chemicals. Platinum can be cleaned at home with a mild jewelry cleaner and soft cloth, but it is best cleaned and polished by a jeweler who specializes in the care of platinum."

(From a pamphlet at Helzberg Diamonds)

I hope this helps anyone with questions or concerns about their metals.

Re: What did you spend on your wedding band?(Ring

If you are very resourceful and ask around, you can find SOMEONE who works in the jewelry business or someone who knows someone who can get you a decent price. If you decide to go the route of a retailer, you will no doubt pay through the nose. If you can find a wholesaler, you will do much better.

FH and I went through a friend to get the e-ring and used the same friend to help us with our bands. Our wedding bands were each 4mm pure plain platinum (no stones) and were about 1/3 (less actually) than the prices we were quoted at each retailer where we tried them on. Retail has a huge mark up. Just be careful where you go.

the quality and size of the diamonds effects the price as well. the metal is not the only factor for the price.
