Re-post from NWR: Need Credit Card Advice

Which is the best credit card to get that offers airline mile rewards? I'd prefer to not have to pay an annual fee. TIA.

I believe capital one has credit cards that give general "points' that can be used towards airfare, etc. with no annual fee. Its better than a specific airline card b/c its more flexible. HTH!

I got a capital one card just for the wedding purchases and i have been very happy with it so far! and now for every $1 you spend on gasyou get 4 points! so its become a gas card too. You can also trade the mile/points for cash.

Re: Re-post from NWR: Need Credit Card Advice

I think that American Express offers a miles card on one of the Credit cards they have (not the charge card) and that's the best card to travel with anyway. Just a little tip- never get a card with an annual fee- there is no reason for it for the most part and many financial advisors will tell you that the fee doesn't balance out the little reduction in interest rate- esp if you have decent/good credit. I wish Fh and I were organized enough to charge things on a miles card!!

Question- You say AMEX is the best card. They didn't give me an annual fee the first year but they did the second and I use this card all the time I mean my bill is never under $1000 a month. Do they charge you a fee does it depend on the card you have???

I have the green rewards one, is this one good for flyer miles too, I believe you can use it on anything???

Re: Re-post from NWR: Need Credit Card Advice

FYI Capital One never gives you an annual fee...initially. After a couple of years they sneak it in. I know many people...myself included...who closed Capital One cards because after being a customer for 5 years all of a sudden there is a fee...even if you pay on time. This is something they still doing...FH is closing his because after being a customer for years, he just started getting a fee this year. AMEX is good, but it's a chage card, not a credit card (as far as I know). Meaning you have to pay off the balance every billing cycle. I am not sure if they have changed, so if I am wrong, please correct me. Unfortunately I am not a big flyer so I can't help you w/ the miles thing, but just wanted to let you know what I know about the others.
