Re: first time having a wedding

I picked out the dresses, but I asked the girls what type of dress they wanted.

As a group we decided full length A-line, some sort of straps, and not too low in the back.

I decided they couldn't get strapless because I was wearing strapless and wanted it to be unique.

We all went shopping and agreed on a dress. It was mostly my choice but asked for their input!

Re: first time having a wedding

i think its mostly the brides decision. my SIL told us what we'd wear (we had no say) but as for me i told my girls(i only have 2) to find something they like.which they are already having proplems deciding so i think i will end up choosing it for them anyway anyway i think its your call

IMO it is nice to talk with your bridesmaids about the style of dress that they want, however depending on how many girls you have, you may have lots of opinions. At some point, you are going to have to get what you like and what you want because you most likely won't be able to please everyone!

Re: first time having a wedding

I told the girls the color I wanted but let them pick out the dress because:

1. They were the ones who have to wear it and should be comfortable. And besides, who wants an unhappy BM?

2. They were paying for it.

Re: first time having a wedding

I haven't found my bridesmaid dresses yet, but I know the color and length that I want. I'm trying to find a designer that has a few different style dresses or tops for 2 pc in the same color and fabric so I can let each of my four girls decide what they want to wear...so they are most comfortable and happy with how they look.

Re: first time having a wedding

it's a personal preference, but I let the ladies in my BP pick their own dresses. I've been a MOH a few times and really appreciated when the brides allowed me to do that. After all, I have to wear it so I want to look good in it. not every dress is meant for every figure, you know?

anyhow, each of the ladies in my BP chose a different gown but they were all from the same store (David's) and they all matched in color perfectly!

ETA: I chose the color

Re: first time having a wedding

If I picked it out, I would have never heard the end of it - I let them pick out the style (all together - what chaos the bridal shop was - but they could not have been more helpful - Carmela's Bridal Garden in Huntington)

I picked out the color - my MOH (Stepsister) wanted a color that looked best with her eyes - I let he know that her eyes were not the priority for my wedding, sorry girl - I picked Sweet Pea (light pink..._)

Re: first time having a wedding

i Think you should take you MOH for a second opinion beacuse taking you BMs may cause a whole lot of opinions that you dont need.

If you have a small BP lets say 3 BMs and a MOH you can take them but a large BP take your MOH and consider all bodytypes and complexions when making you pick.

Re: first time having a wedding

I've been in SEVEN weddings, I was MOH in 2, I was only asked ONCE what I would like. I picked a few that I wanted and had my BM's pick a date to all go try them on.

Re: first time having a wedding

I picked out the dress for my girls but, they all loved it. If most of them or even one had a problem with it, I would try to work with them. But if they were being unreasonable, then I might get annoyed.
I would make aday of it. Make it like shopping and lunch with the girls. Take to a few places, let them try different things. And ask their opinions. One big style thats happening a lot today is that girls are going with same color but different typles of dress. For example lets say your BM has larger arms than most. She might want something with sleeves. Lets say another one as a small chest, y ou might get something that gives her a little more in there. All the same color, all going well and all the girls happy. Its nice that the wedding industry is working with us.
