FH said that American Airlines refuses to book any flights to Aruba because of the lack of cooperation that was given when that girl went missing. FFIL is booking our flgiht because he is giving us his points so now we dont know where we should go!!! NOW WHAT!!!???

Re: American Airlines boycotts ARUBA
why don't you look into St. Lucia? It's supposedly the most beautiful out of the islands. Or Jamaica, it's beautiful and the least expensive! HTH!

Hmmm, now you got me! I'm going there during hurricane season as well, and they have hurricane protection. I'm staying at Sandals. You definitly want somewhere warm and tropical, right? I can give you my TA's #, she's fabulous, and can probably suggest something for you and work out your miles w/ AA.

Re: American Airlines boycotts ARUBA
I don't think you have anything to worry about. I did a quick Google search and this is what came up:
Alabama governor calls for Aruba boycott
Aruba boycott hits snag - U.S. State Department won't back travel ban
I guess it was brought up, but I can't see that ever going through...

Re: American Airlines boycotts ARUBA
Hawaii is always a good choice. I have heard that St. Lucia and the rest of the islands near there, rarely get hit my hurricanes.
Cabo San Lucas, west coast Mexico. My parents say it beautiful and very built up.

No worries - there is no travel policy regarding aruba on AA.com, and flights are still up for ARuba, and the US has not boycotted Aruba

You could also look into Curacao, that was one of my options. It's right next to Aruba.

Bride Twin: We are getting sper rates to go to Hawaii via liberty travel here in NYC. FM me You should also consider Costa Rica too!!!!! I am told (though I dont believe anything) that the Islands by mid October are pretty much not a concern for hurricanes meaning Aruba, St Lucia, PR, DR and its more of a Bermuda, Bahmas, and FL. HTH

Re: American Airlines boycotts ARUBA
I am sorry that your plans have been spoiled. But I personally support the boycott.
I have been following the Natalee Holloway case and the Aruban government has done very little to find out what has happaned to her.
Plus, the three guys, Joran, Sateesh, and Depak have ADMITTED to raping her, and they are free men.
Its time we send the message that Americans will not stand for such injustice.

Re: American Airlines boycotts ARUBA
I make the trip down 2xs a year and my parents just got back last week, not an empty seat on AA! Why would they jeopardize their business because of 1 case? They have shareholders, this airline is not independantly owned where they can support such an action. They'll never boycott a sure thing..too much $$ at stake.
As for this case in particular,my heart goes out to the family of Natalee Holloway and any other family left behind with no answers. Who knows if we'll ever know what happened.
The people of Aruba are wonderful hosts, they are warm and sincere. They rely heavily on tourism,a mandatory boycott would hurt more innocent lives. These ppl have taken time off from their jobs to search the island for her,how many of us have done this for the countless ppl reported missing everyday here in the US? Can you imagine if tourists would not come to NY because of crimes that may or may have not occured here,it would be a ghost-town!
Go,see for yourself. Don't get on the "bandwagon" just because others are too. I loved our 2 week honeymoon there, perfect weather, perfect vacation. I can't wait to go back. P.S. a manager of a casino for a premier hotel on Aruba has become a good family friend throughout the yrs. When I was there( in Sept) he was expressing his disgust at how Natalees parents are there, night after night..boozing it up-having a good time while calling for a boycott. He is not Arubian, he is a US citizen, working for an American CO there.

Re: American Airlines boycotts ARUBA
Wonderful
Im going to Aruba on my honeymoon.
Ladies. I know this whole situation is HORRIBLE, and believe me, my heart goes out to this family-the whole story is mortifying. However, I just cant see boycotting a whole country for this one incident. If you really think about it, there is no place in this world that is 100% safe. You just have to remember to be aware of your surroundings in any foreign place. Unfortunately, there is people in our own country getting away with murder everyday, and we do nothing about it. It may seem that im being bias because Im honeymooning in Aruba, but believe me, I just cant see the justification for just completely "boycotting" a whole country. If you feel that strong against something, then its your parogative not to travel there. Not to point fingers, but I have heard numerous stories about Jamaica, and how cruise ships wanted to take Jamaica off their iteneraries because the numerous complaints by cruise passangers on how the locals are ruthless when it comes to trying to sell you “illegal substances” and all the hassling they do to tourists to try to sell them stuff and give them money. Being told these stories, it would probably sway me away from visiting that island. I have never been there so I cant even say this is valid. I use my own judgement.
Anyway... Like I said.. the whole situation in Aruba is disturbing. However, I can never imagine how an airline as big as American Airlines wouild boycott Aruba altogether. They would loose sooooo much money.

I agree . I also was very bothered by what happened there but I have been there and I know how safe the island is. I do not agree with how the situation was handled but it is another area that has it's own laws. I also think that we will never know what really happened to her and the circumstances around the situation.

Re: American Airlines boycotts ARUBA
having been to aruba a few times ,the island is beautiful and for all those honeymooning there you will have an amazing time... and you are right every single place has their "issues"/crimes..etc... however the laws in aruba really are ridiculous, its the only reason why they have a no/low crime rate...
