Ushers vs. Groomsmen
I'm planning to have 3 of my close guy friends be ushers, in addition to our groomsmen. Aside from seating people at the ceremony, have any of you used ushers for any other roles? Also, how did you differentiate them from groomsmen in terms of dress?

Other weddings Ive been to the ushers just wore nice suits, not tuxes like the GM to differentiate. But its whatever your taste is. If you want a very formal feel you could throw ushers in tux's too.

Ushers at the wedding I attended wore nice suits- no tuxes. I don't know if I would require them to wear tuxes either- it's an added expense for them and they don't get the large roll to go with it. Unless- A- they have money OR B- you are paying for them...JMHO tho!!

We are having our ushers pass out programs or petal cones and possibly walking FH's parents down the aisle. The wedding is Black Tie, so our ushers are wearing tuxes.

We are having three ushers in addition as well. They will seat people as well as maybe do some readings, hand out programs, petal cones...haven't really figured out everything yet. They will be wearing very nice suits (no tuxs, but the suits you would rent at a tux place so they all match) and a tie in the bridesmaids colors. We might have them announced also at the reception as a special thanks type thing.

I was an usher in a wedding and as a female wore a black/white dress. The guys wore tuxes but had a different color vest/tie than the GM. We escorted guests, passed out programs, sat grandparents, and at the end gave out directions to the reception to anyone who needed them.

I say to have them wear suits instead of tuxes but also get them a bout. so they stand out from other guests.

I had more BM's than FH had GM so we made the 2 extra girls into usherettes. They will greet everyone as they come in, hand out programs and petal cones. They will be wearing the same thing as the BM's, but the BM's dresses are long gowns and the usherettes are wearing tea length dresses. Also, they will wear corsages so that they still feel special.
