Heard that too...our travel agent won't book us on delta because they're gonna go bankrupt she said

American totally screwed me over. I was trying to get to then FI graduation from boot camp. (as a total side note, ending that relationship was the best thing I ever did). Due to rain and fog in NY I had a hard time getting out. I finally got out but missed the connecting flight. I spent the night in the AIRPORT in Las Vegas, and then the next morning they said I could either fly Salt Lake City to San Antonio, or Dallas to San Antonio. Well, I figured Dallas is closer to San Antonio, so if things got screwed up again I could just drive. I got to Dallas, and AA told me to just sit and wait. I sat for so damn long I didn't have time to drive to San Antonio. Delta actually flew me to San Antonio, but by the time I got there it was 6 PM (waaaaay after the ceremony). My luggage was lost, and I had to find a Wal Mart (or some such thing) to buy clothes, since by that point I had been wearing the same thing for more than 48 hours! UGH!!!
When I called AA after the fact, their response was "oh well." No voucher, no free flight, not even an apology!! I refuse to fly that airline now.

I guess everyone has their bad and good experiences on both airlines. I've gone to Miami dozens of times and always flew American. If I fly to Ft. Lauderdale, I take Delta.
I will tell you this...the run from LGA to Miami blows on both airlines!!! If you have a choice, fly out of JFK!!! Also allow for PLENTY of time for your connection in Miami, because the terminal is so huge that you may very well have to cross the entire airport to make your connection!! (Trust me, I did this last summer!)
The only difference I can notice between the 2 is I have more room on American. On Delta, the walkway to your seat is extremely narrow, which makes it a pain in the butt if you're in an aisle seat.
I had 1 experience that sticks out in my mind. I was coming from Miami to LGA on American. We were flying in the middle of a horrible storm. The plane was shaking and dropping so much the entire time it was like something out of a horror movie. The pilot somehow, someway managed to get us home safely, and only 1 1/2 hours late. So here I was crying, hugging my then BF, and they lost my freaking luggage. As if the life before my eyes flight wasn't enough. They were very apologetic, and got my bag the next day, but it was a bad end to a bad night.
