POLL...Delta or American Airlines?

I know they are both horrible airlines but which would you prefer? I have no choice because those are the only two airlines going from NY to Miami and a connecting flight to St Lucia from Miami.

Which would you choose?

Delta,
I've had way worse service on American!
I prefer Continental to either, and fly foreign airlines whenever possible (they are always better!).

You can also fly JetBlue, I think they go to Ft. Lauderdale and there is a shuttle to the Miami airport. They might go to Miami directly, but I don't remember.

Fortunately never had a problem with American in the past!

I prefer American Airlines, but that is because sometimes I travel with my cat. They have the largest spaces under the seats for me to place the cat carrier.

I am not a "frequent traveler" but I travel 5 or 6 times a year between work and vacations and have never had a problem with American.

My DH travels for work on American at least once per week and often more. Rarely if ever has he had a problem. We sat business class on American to Italy for our honeymoon and the service was great.

I've had good experiences with Delta Song, bad with American and the best with Jet Blue

Just had a bad experience with Delta this weekend when I went to South Carolina. Also, I think they are filing for bankruptcy so I would do American....

I LOVE American! they have always done right by me. I have flown Delta a few times and there was always a delay for whatever reason

ETA: Delta filed for Bankruptcy protection, I wouldn't fly them for free right now!

I can't stand either airline but I would probably go with American because out of the handful of times DH and I have taken Delta they have lost our luggage three times. They always find it in a day or so but it is such a hassle.

I have had the worst experiences on American Airlines. They treated us very rudly, especially this stewardess named denata or something like that. My FH is 6'4"..... whenever we fly, we need the emergency exit seat, becasue his knees will be in his chest otherwise. We got to the front gate and made sure we would have that seat. Then when we got to the boarding line and again, made sure we were getting the emergency exit seat. They told us you absolutely have it. Sure enough, when we got on the airplane, each emergency exit seat already had people in it. One man clearly needed it, because he had extremely long legs too, but the other passenger was about 5'. When we said something to the stewardess, she stated, its not our fault you are big and your legs can't fit in the seat. I couldn't believe she even said that!!!!!!!! Then, she continued and said we were getting hostile, and if we didn't sit in the 2 regular seats, we would have to leave. So we did..... but we in no way raised our voices, or even argued. When the lady who was 5' saw my FH with his knees to his chest, she tapped him on the shoulder and said, wow, you look uncomfortable, would you like to switch seats... she was sooooo nice. So my FH thanked her and switched. Like 5 min later.. that same stewardess came over to the woman and said...... that was nice of you to give up your seat to rude people who ask you to move... why don't you come to first class with me where there is a lot of leg room... we have 2 open seats. I will never fly American again, and I don't think anyone else should either!!!!!

I would definitely fly American. First of cause my dad works for them. Second - cause in all my years of flying and all of the flying that my parents have done - we have never ever had a problem with them.

I WILL NEVER EVER fly Delta - they made me miss a connecting flight to Florida because they wouldn't let the passengers off the plane (and would not hold my flight - I watched it take off while sitting on my first flight). Then I had to stay in a hotel (BY MYSELF) overnight in Georgia - was followed by some man, that I had to call security at Delta- they barely helped. Meanwhile all this time, my FFIL just had open heart surgery and wasn't sure if he was going to make it.

I really have no experience w/airlines, but I think its just like everything else- some have positive experiences, and some have negative experiences.
As for the bankrupcy thing - all the airlines are bankrupt (figuratively speaking}. The airline industry is doing bad overall. One airline may declare bankrupcy today, and the other tomorrow. You never know, the industry is just so shaky right now.

I personally HATE delta, and will never fly them again if I can help it.

I'd go Jet Blue if you can. They are more bare bones, but I haven't had problems with them. Their places are starting to get a little old and a little less nice, but they are still better than the other airlines!
