Question about transporting guests...

Many of our guests are coming from out-of-town (FH is from Boston), and will be staying at a hotel that's about 10 minutes from the reception. Even though it's only 10 minutes, the drive is kind of confusing and a bit of a pain in the a$$. I wanted to provide shuttle service between the hotel and the reception for these guests...

Has anyone done this? How did it work, who did you use, and how much did it cost?

Thanks!

Re: Question about transporting guests...

Hey Claire! How are you? What we're doing is having rooms blocked at the Wingate, which has a shuttle service. I forget how many rooms you need blocked, but if you have a certain amount, then you get a small van to shuttle to JT and back to the Wingate. I think any additional vans are $80. I wrote the info down at home and I can FM it to you later. HTH!

Re: Question about transporting guests...

We arranged for shuttle service through Alert Coach Buses. It will take OOT guests from the Hotel to the Reception and back to the Hotel at the end of the night.

IMO, Shuttle service is a good idea because it offers OOT guests a way to get back and forth w/o worrying about them getting lost or more importantly drinking and driving...

Also, FH and I live in Brooklyn and many of our guests don't drive or own a car.

Most of the hotels offer shuttle service for OOT guests to get to/from things like weddings!! If you hotel doesn't offer this kind of service, check with your limo company.

Re: Question about transporting guests...

Some hotels actually offer shuttle services within their room rates. You may want to check out some local Holiday Inns and MArriots. I called Elite Transportation, they quoted me $675 for a 26 person shuttle and over $700 for a 33 person. I hear coach buses run abour $350 or so.....

Re: Question about transporting guests...

Has anyone found transportation for cheaper? More like $200 for a drop off before and pick up after? It's literally a 5 minute drive.

Re: Question about transporting guests...

Bauman - yes the school bus company, does shuttles. When I got a price quote from them they were relatively inexpensive. I didn't use them because I found another way to meet my needs.

Re: Question about transporting guests...

The cheapest way to do it is to hire taxi vans... they're $90 for a 14 passenger van each way.... I am using a company that my job uses and they gave us a price break at only $75 each way! That's for a 14 passenger van... I wanted to provide shuttle service, but didn't want to spend a fortune. Honestly, I have NEVER been to a wedding where they even had a shuttle service, so people should be grateful for anything. Go with the taxi van if money is the issue.

Sure, when I get home I can post for everyone. She just gave me the rates for this year, but she said that next year shouldn't change much in price.

Thanks for everyone's input! I already actually have a hotel block at the Wingate Inn, and the woman I've dealt with never even mentioned the shuttle!!?!?

I am definitely calling the Wingate Inn and the Marriott when I get home!

That's not necessairly true. Before we made our decision on the Melville Marriott for our OOTG's not one major hotel I spoke with offered shuttle service. However, they will happily recommend a company you can call. We decided NOT to do transportation for our guests. Most of them are going to have rental cars because they need to get from the area airports to the hotel and will need transportation for themselves since our wedding is a sunday and they are coming in Friday.

Re: Question about transporting guests...

Hey everyone. Just posting the info in my contract with Wingate Inn.:

For every 15 rooms booked, there is a free complementary 14-passenger shuttle van that transports guests to Jericho terrace and then back to the Inn. I believe that it is around $80-90 for each additional van needed. HTH
