Name Change Questions
Does it matter whether you go to SS or the DMV first to change your name? If you change it with the DMV first, do you need to bring some form of proof (ie passport) with your maiden name when you go to the SS office?
The DMV is open on Saturdays (in CT) so it won't be a problem to change that, but it will be tough for me to go to the SS office, which is only open during the week. I'd rather not send away for my new SS card. I don't want to mail my marriage certificate to them and wait a while for it to come back since I will need the certificate to change my name for everything else. TIA.

I was told that I needed to go to SS first. Then DMV. DMV needs your a paper from the SS office with your new name on it.

I just went to DMV first. All I needed was my current license and the marriage certificate. I was out of there in 10 minutes.
I am going to SS next week. I went on the SS website and it tells you what you need to bring with you.
I even downloaded and printed to forms I needed for DMV from the website.

That's what I did. Becasue if you think about it your SS is linked to everything.
