Did you get your FH an engagement gift?
I didn't get FH an engagement gift and I do not have tons of $$$ but my FH keeps blabbing about how his friend (whose FI makes well into 6 figures) got a large plasma tv from his FI for their engagement and now i feel bad i didn't get him anything. I mean I know i get him a wedding gift but should I have gotten him an engagement gift???

Since we got engaged around christmas, my ring was my christmas present, so I just told him his christmas presents were his engagement gifts
I would just tell FH that now that you are engaged, it's probably time to start seeing things realistically and that you cannot afford an extravagant gift. Then go out and buy him something more meaningful than a stupid TV and tell him you wanted him to have somethign that was a symbol of your love, not something he could sit and watch.

I was thiniking of getting him a nice watch or a recliner, but I really have no $$, and so I'll save it for a really nice wedding gift. I think I'll go for the watch though. It's nicer than a TV and it'll last forever. I was thinkng recliner, but along the same lines as the TV I don't want to encourage him to sit on his but, watch TV and ignore me (and housework..lol)..
If he's really bugging you over the TV I'd talk to him about it. it isn't really nice for him to make you feel like he expects somethign especially when he know you're not a millionaire and you've got a wedding to save for.

I didn't get FH one, and I felt bad about it when he showed up at e-party with one for me. I did however get him a wedding gift before we even got engaged. When he sees it, he'll realize when and where I got it, and hopefully that will make up for it.

I took him to get a massage - something he always talks about but never does. I wanted to do something since he had spent so much on my ring and therefore couldn't indulge himself. But a plasma TV?! Come on!

I thought i would get him a Tag or Raymond Weil as a wedding gift.
I really didn't think an engagement gift was done. We live together and I feel like I have contributed a lot financially to us to compensate for his cc bills cause of the ring. I paid for the hotel room on our last 3day vacation, and i usually pay for dinner. Also, he is a teacher so it isn't like he wants a watch or palm or cufflinks etc etc you know?

anyway, you do NOT need to get him an engagement gift. It is not the norm... However, I did get Michael a play station (i asked him what he wanted and that is what he said) as an engagement gift...

I didn't get FH anything...then again he's not expecting anything either...he was just happy I said yes!  I don't think he knows about the whole wedding present thing either...that's something we have to talk about because we're paying for everything pretty much ourselves so..we might not get each other a present and just put that money into the wedding..

We got engaged in January and I just recently bought him an engagement gift. I got him a new computer (with all the extras he wanted and a widescreen flat screen monitor that's bigger than our tv), but I did it because I wanted to, not because I felt obligated. FH certainly didn't expect anything - he definitely appreciated it, but didn't expect it. But we're also not doing wedding gifts, so I really wanted him to have something just for himself.

I didn't get FH a gift, we were too poor. But he rubs it in my face all the time that his mom got his step-dad a 60in. flat screen when they got engaged, so I'm opening a Christmas club to save up for his flat screen wedding gift!!!
