Cake Tasting?----Updated
Ok, so I called the bakery that does the cakes for my catering hall, and explained to the owner that I don't know exactly what I want yet, but I would like to come down for a tasting. I spoke with him twice before today. So I went all the way there today, (after speaking to him THIS MORNING) and he had nothing there for me to taste. Instead he sent me home with some cookies! Did anyone actually go for a tasting before deciding on a baker or did you just order? I'm really angry and feel like I can't trust this guy, because he wasn't even prepared for a tasting!
We finally got our samples- and they were kinda gross. The cannoli was spicey (???) and the vanilla sponge was nothing special. The other 2 fillings were chocolate mouse and vanilla pudding. Thank God I'm not serving it to the entire party!!! But now I don't even want one!

Re: Cake Tasting?
I'm using may hall's bakery - Bleck Forest. I had made an appt. a few weeks before to look at cakes (I had to fly in from the west coast, so advance planning was a necessity), and I, too, did not get to taste any cake. They gave me like 2 cannolis.
I thought it was wierd. The guy was wierd, too. His daughter works for him and he kept yelling at her while we were there. I am nervous about my cake.....

Re: Cake Tasting?
My bakery also doesn't do tastings but they did offer to make a mini version of it for us. I didn't want it, so I don't know if there would have been a charge for that.

Re: Cake Tasting?
I'm getting my cake from my hall, but I had a tasting of the cakes. I had to go through my hall for the tasting though.

Re: Cake Tasting?
well my whole thing with the tasting was that i have no idea what kind of cake i want! i'm not really a cake person and i hate icing so i wanted to chose something that i had tasted before hand. his pastries were yummy though. the reason i want to use him is b/c it's included w/ my price, so why spend more?!
