Help me write my thank yous, please!
What do you write?? Do you say..."thank you for the iced beverage glasses...yada yada" and what do you say to people that gave you money?? I was just about to start and then i got scared to start writing something!

Re: Help me write my thank yous, please!
Do your cards have saying in them? if so sign your name...thats what I did. sometimes if u write individual messages it takes too long and u will never finish. If there is no message then i would write "thank you for sharing our special Day with us"...I wouldnt mention the gift. the thank u card acknowledges your gratitude. Then again, I am not the princess of etiquette rules so only use my ideas as a guideline ; )

Re: Help me write my thank yous, please!
I really think you should write a personal message on each. I wrote at least a few sentences for each person.
Something like...
"Thank you so much for sharing our special day with us and for your generous gift. We were so glad that you made the trip from Florida to be with us. It meant a great deal."
or
"Thank you so much for sharing our special day with us and for the beautiful toasting glasses. I can't wait to use them as we eat our cake on our first anniversary!"
Then I added something like, "Our honeymoon was wonderful. We went scuba diving and sailing, and it was wonderful being pampered after the stressful months planning the wedding! We're back to reality and gradually unpacking and moving into our new place. Can't wait until it really feels like home."
My family would have disowned me if I just signed my name, but I'm from a family of english majors...

Re: Help me write my thank yous, please!
I thanked people for coming to our wedding (if they did), and for object gifts, I tried to mention how we would use them, or that we are enjoying them, something like that. For the money gifts, I thanked people and told them we were putting them to a future purchase (like a house).

Re: Help me write my thank yous, please!
I wrote "Thank you so much for sharing our special day with us and for your generous gift." For family and friends I wrote something a little more personal in it.

Re: Help me write my thank yous, please!
Nov04libride u seem to take an offense to my response. though we should agree to disagree, You should not spend more then a minute on my ways of doing things verses yours. Not everyone does things the same thats why the world has variety. When someone asks for opinions, I am willing and able to share the information I have. therefore, your family that would "kill you" for doing things my way should not follow my guidelines. have a good nite.

Huh? Didn't know I mentioned your response at all. Clearly all families are different, which is why we all offer opinions. My family is very communicative, both in writing and verbally, which I thought I pointed out.

i honestly did NOT get that impression whatsoever. my family, too, would be taken aback if we just signed our names to the Thank You- just as nov2004bride said- but i don't see how thats a personal attack on you? to each his own, but thats just a random thing to take offense to- especially when it didnt seem directed at you in anyway

Re: Help me write my thank yous, please!
I am still writing out thank you cards. I am doing a few a day and am trying to put soething personal in each one. For example, if I remember dancing with someone I will mention that. If I remember 2 couples really catching up or having a good time toegther I tried to put that in there too. It is kind of difficult, but I think they will appreciate it. Had I not, would they have thought twice about it... probably not. I don't remember one thank you that was sent to me. But then again, back when I went to a wedding last, I wasn't near getting married so I didn't notice the details as I would now.
Different strokes for different folks!

I think you may have taken her reply a little too personally. I don't think her reply showed that she took any offense to yours at all.

Re: Help me write my thank yous, please!
i wrote similar to nov04bride... for people who gave us something, i mentioned what that gift was and how we would use it, or that we enjoyed it. like- DHs friend gave us some of our pots and pans- they have a sense of humor so i wrote " thank you for the pots and pans. they will be perfect to teach luke to cook with!" i really thought it was important to write what the gift was, because at the wedding there were so many different gifts, and i wanted people to know that we got what they gave us and knew which gift was from them...
for people who gave us money, i said something like " thank you for the generous gift. we will be putting it toward the furniture we need for our new home" or " it will come in handy for all the things we'll need for our new home" doesn't have to be an award winning novel, just a nice note to let people know you appreciate their gift. don't think about it too much... just write it, and get them out before people start getting on your case

Re: Help me write my thank yous, please!
If they attended, I wrote something like "Thank you so much for sharing our special day with us. It was great to see you. Thank you also for the wonderful (or generous) gift."
If they didn't attend: "Thank you so much for the generous gift. We wish we could have thanked you personally..." blah blah
