DOC vs. Matire’D and Bridal Attendant

So i can see the benefit of having a DOC with me for the for the wedding day up until the reception since there is really no one around to help at the ceremony other than friends and family.

but at the reception there is the matire'D and a bridal attendant...can someone explain to me what a DOC does beyond what these people are responsible for? I guess maybe i don't really understand what the matire'D and bridal attendant do. Also do the reception halls ever mind that you are bringing in this outside person to "watch over" in a way?

I really like the idea of not having to assign any tasks to my family or friends for the day so they can really enjoy everything :)

Thanks!

Re: DOC vs. Matire’D and Bridal Attendant

The DOC can pay all vendors- pass out tips at the reception - set up the timeline the way you want it - can learn your bustle

Maitr- D - in charge of wait staff getting fdinner going, enterance, starting cake cutting

Bridal attendant- making sure you have engough food, something to drink

I thought that I was going to be okay with just the Maitre'D and Bridal Attendant, but honestly if I could go back and change one thing about my wedding, I would hire a DOC.

Re: DOC vs. Matire’D and Bridal Attendant

The DOC is also a neutral person so they'll keep any eye on whats going on with the hall for you too more than the Maitre D or BA would IMO.

I had a DOC and looking back, I think I would've gone crazy w/o one!

ETA I also wanted to let my friends and family to enjoy themselves w/o worrying about wedding details!

Re: DOC vs. Matire’D and Bridal Attendant

Having been to weddings with DOC, many did not even stay until the food was served. She took care of passing out favors/tear packs, etc., and possibly more than I know she did, but the maitre d' and attendant really took over once it was at the reception hall.

Not at my wedding! My DOC stayed until we pulled away in the limo after the reception. The maitre d dealt with the wait staff, the bridal attendant brought CH food to the bridal suite and packed up the suite at the end of the reception.

One thing that sticks out in my mind is that she prevented the photographer from leaving an hour early. I'm sure that there were many other things that she did that I didn't even know about.

Even with her help, everything wasn't perfect, but I know that I was able to have a much better time on my wedding day than I would have if I had not hired a DOC.

same here! mine also only left after she got us settled into our limo to leave after our reception.

Id recommend only hiring someone that will stay with you from beginning to end.

Yes, I need some info as well. I definitely need a DOC. I live in Los Angeles and this long distance wedding planning is making me crazy. I know I will forget something on my wedding day.
I have already had a nightmare that I forgot my dress.
Thanks ladies!

Re: DOC vs. Matire’D and Bridal Attendant

Honestly, the DOC does more than you think. from personal experience, my sister got married in May, and there were things that neede to get done that didn't.

My mom brought the programs and bubbles with her to the Church (Ceremony) which was after the guests got there, so no one knew about the programs, and then they were scrambling to find the bubbles.

Then at the reception, the Bridal attendant was MIA. all the time!!! She was to busy helping the waite staff serve food, than helping my sister. I ran around like a chicken trying to find the toasting flutes, and serving knives and cake topper at the end of the wedding, or it would all be left there. The bridal suite was locked, which was fine b/c the place has more than one wedding at a time, but when ever you needed to get in there, I couldn't find the Bridal attendant....

MY POINT IS....... I missed alot of my sister's wedding b/c I was to busy worrying so she didn't have to... There were alot of things the Bridal attendant was NOT there for, and I ended up doing the job....

I have hired a DOC (Michelle Nocella from Defining Moments) (My little plug!!!) to make my special day run smoothly, So all of my family, and friends, especially my sister can enjoy themselves...

Michelle also did the makeup for my sister's wedding, but wasn't the DOC, but even in the morning, when the makeup was being done, a certain MIL was acting like it was her wedding, and making my sister upset, and Michelle was there to put things in perspective, which I'm glad she handled it, b/c I would have gone nuts on the woman...

Long Story even Longer.. From personal experience, a DOC is worth every penny!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure a DOC is helpful, but that sounds like an awful hall and Bridal Attendant! My attendant didn't serve other tables, just helped me and DH.

I'm using Rosalie from Expressions -- she is wonderful! Even though I hired her for a DOC, she is ALWAYS there to help me! I am relieved to have her on my wedding day. I'm mega-stressed as it is and I still have 5 months to go!!

Re: DOC vs. Matire’D and Bridal Attendant

i got married at the fox hollow ceremony and everything. The matirs'd's there are amazing, with out them your wedding would not on. They make sure the set up of your room is going correctly they set up the times for all the courses, they are in charge of all the waitstaff. I had Carey and he kicked butt. All my family and bridal party loved him, my girlfriend liked him so much because he was seen in the room pouring water walking around, that she requested him for hers. The bridal attendant is all for you. She is with you from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave. She helps with the pictures and brings you drinks and stuff for thebridal party. Takes you to the bathroom and bridal suite. FM for any more help.
