Wedding dress (Be Honest)

is anyone not wearing the typical wedding dress. I hvae looked, and looked, and I have not seen a wedding dress that making me say OMG I want that, BUT while looking at best dressed for the Emmy's when I saw Halle Berry's (who looks good in anything) I had that feeling. Does anyone think it's just not for a wedding? It would be creme where she has blue, and where she has white, it would be gold. Oh and I want my train, or tail to fall like Teri Hatcher's

Re: Wedding dress (Be Honest)

Honestly, IMHO, I just don't think it says "bride" at all. Even if it were in all cream, it looks like a party dress to me. JMO though...

Re: Wedding dress (Be Honest)

I think you should wear what will make you feel like a queen on your wedding day!

But, I actually like the Teri Hatcher dress better (also switched to ivory). There's something that seems more elegant about that dress than Halle's....

Honestly...I love it. It sounds beautiful. I think if you're having a very formal wedding (black tie) it would be perfect. It sounds very sophisticated and elegant. You realize, it's your day..you can do what ever the heck you want!

Re: Wedding dress (Be Honest)

thanks for the honesty. I just feel like I will be very uncomfortable in the gowns that I have been seeing. My mom also suggested that maybe I were a regular wedding dress, then change later in the reception, b/c thats what she did, but I think thats too much.
I guess I'll figure something out

Re: Wedding dress (Be Honest)

I am also of the mind that you can wear whatever you want, but keep these things in mind...

1) in a dress like that, you won't really stand out much from the crowd since it's basically a party dress (yes, from the front people will recognize you, BUT as the bride you should stand out from OUTER SPACE, and strangers and passersby should know who YOU are)

2) think about how you may feel/change in 20 or 30 years....you may see this as a missed opportunity to really play dress up. you could potentially wear the Halle dress to any formal function.

3) I agree with your mom- I think you should start out more traditional for all of the photo ops- ceremony, entrance, cake cutting- all that- THEN, when the party gets rolling, change into your party dress and do your thing.

What about tradition white? If you don't like white, you can always go w/ ivory or pink.

Maybe you could do a simple white dress (like a Jcrew dress) for the ceremony and then BOOM change into this dress for the reception.
I think it is beautiful and you will stand out.

I agree and feel this would look like a stunning elegant and different wedding dress but hun you should definatly keep this phrase in your mind as you plan

"My day...MY way"

good luck

Re: Wedding dress (Be Honest)

I think it will look beautiful in creme and gold. It screams "Grecian" and since you're getting married at a Museum it should work perfectly.
As long as you're happy with the dress and you love it no one else's opinion should matter. Not everyone is a big dress bride and not everyone dreams of wearing a big dress. My sister wore a bias cut sheath made of a whisper of silk draped to her body and cut angularly at the back with alternating "see through" and white silk layers...it was not typical but it was definitely HER wedding dress and everyone knew who she was and congratulated her on the way to her ceremony. She looked every but a bride.
Even if this is not the dress, you should find something that screams "you" and makes you feel beautiful.
Good luck in your search!

Re: Wedding dress (Be Honest)

If you don't like white you can do ivory or champaign or like a soft gold. We are in the 2000's now so I don't think not wearing white is a big deal.

Re: Wedding dress (Be Honest)

It's gorgeous...I'd personally make the front a little longer and maybe not have it so low cut in the front...you say you want to party and I wouldn't feel comfortable the way it is. Do what you want- It's your day!! I almost went non-traditional but agree that I didn't want to wear something like I always wear, much to FH disappointment.

Re: Wedding dress (Be Honest)

I love that idea. I do prefer Terri's dress a little over Hallie's.

When I was trying to pick a dress people kept trying to put me in big gowns. While they were beautiful and looked good on me I just didn't feel comfortable. I know that people feel that it is the one day that they get to dress like princess, but we all have different visions of what that is. I think that you should try on different types of dresses, even if you don't think they are you. Sometimes you are surprised. In the end I got the dress that I felt represnted me the best. A lot of people thought that it wasn't really "wedding like", but I was the one wearing it and I loved it. Do what you feel is best.
