Question for girls who are having their dress made
I have been searching high and low for a gown and have had very little luck. I know what I want but haven't been able to find it. My question is for those girls who are having their dress made do you think the cost compares to purchasing a dress. My mother seems to think it will be a ton more money but I am not so sure. Any feedback would be great!

Re: Question for girls who are having their dress made
it depends on where you taste lies. I you are looking at a dress for around $1000 or less, I wouldn't bother, but both Christine and I have caviar taste on tunafish budgets...the retail of my dress was over $5000
it also depends on where you are looking...anyone with the word Atelier in their name will cost you $$$ and call your dress couture...
if you find a seemstress that works out of her house (a la Pinina or my dressmaker, a family member who is retired after 40 years of wedding dress making) it is definitely a good deal.
I hope this made sense! Good luck...and I think Pinina is worth the trip to Washington Heights.

Re: Question for girls who are having their dress made
I just feel like I go to these bridal places and they are showing me dresses for $3-4k and I am like this is not the one. If I am spending money on a dress I want to know that I love it. It sounds like you both are getting a good deal. I am hitting one more bridal place and if I don't find anything I am getting it made!

Re: Question for girls who are having their dress made
It's best to find the dress first, try it on to see how it looks on you, and if it's in your budget - buy it. If it's not and you're certain that it's "THE ONE" have it made.
My dress is about $5,500++++ and there was no way in heck I could justify spending that much for my dress.

Re: Question for girls who are having their dress made
Here's the dress I had made & the original, which I altered. I ended up paying about 1/2 of original. FM me if you have any questions and would like the contact!

Re: Question for girls who are having their dress made
I went to a neiman marcus outlet that had a handful of dresses that I tried on. Of course the one I loved was ripped , 2 sizes to small and had no tag of who the designer was. The style was perfect ...very simple and elegant. I just bought the knot magazine with the 900 dresses hoping I could find one that would be similar to the one I found and would you believe out of the 900 not one of them looked like it lol. I am glad to know that not all dressmakers are an insane amount of money

Go back and find out who the designer is, and research research research. The ladies on here are PHENOMINAL.
I had no idea who the designer of my dress was, found something similar and then someone posted it and that was it!
If you're SURE that it's THE ONE - it's well worth the trek back and getting what you want!
