Yes I remember this post.. But thats the way the alterations work.. they tell you theres a "cap" and then they order the dress 2 sizes too big so they have to alter it a lot and charge you the max amt. The whole wedding business is a big scam.

You don't have to have the dresses altetered there. bring them some where else. Ask around you can find a seamstress.

I remember Macy's saying that alterations were $50, whether the dress needed major work or only a hem. That's why I used someone else

Re: I am sooo mad right now! Does anyone remember the post about the bride who stood up against...
I don't know if this will help..... but I used Filomena's dressmaking in Coram to get my BM dress altered for my best friend's wedding. (She doesn't care where the dress comes from) I had lost 25 lbs from measurements to alterations, so everything needed to be taken in, plus the hem. It cost me $50.
Now if I could only lose more weight for my wedding.

Re: I am sooo mad right now! Does anyone remember the post about the bride who stood up against...
The worst part about the whole thing is that I HAVE and amazing seamstress (Moda in Franklin Square if anyone's interested ) and I told the girls to go there, but we all remember the alterations being $50, well most of us anyway. The first BM didn't say anything to me about it because she didn't want to make a stink, but she had almost nothing done!
I am going to call today and go down there on Saturday with 3 of my BMs who have fittings and give them a piece of my mind! If we don't like their answer (and they are very snotty) we will go to Moda. Unfortunately, I probably can't do much about the 2 BMs who went.
P.S. The BM who went last night was going to take the dress out after she had the fitting, and they were going to take all the pins out!! They said that when you go to a plumber you have to pay even for a housecall!!!!

Yes I remember this post.. But thats the way the alterations work.. they tell you theres a "cap" and then they order the dress 2 sizes too big so they have to alter it a lot and charge you the max amt. The whole wedding business is a big scam.
You can also look for a place where alterations are included/free in the price of the dress. This def. stopped the scam of ordering the dress 2 sizes too big

A Lot of people seem to think this for some reason. I cannot speak for other salons, but I know in mine, we try to get as close to the true size as we can, so they need as little alterations as possible. Unfortunately everyone's shapes are so different, and you have to order to accommodate the biggest part, which may leave some areas of the dress much too big. Also, when the manufacturer cuts a stack of fabric at once the dresses do vary slightly per each dress. What I recommend to everyone, is when they take your measurements, look at them, and compare them to the size chart along with your bridal consultant. if you feel you are a smaller size, sign responsibility for it, and get it. Also, to avoid astronomical alteration charges, go to an outside tailor, they usually are much less. I will agree that bridal alterations, along with everything else that has "wedding" attached to it, are very very high. Yes, it's worth it for the bridal gown...but I'm not SO sure for the bridesmaids dresses

So then why when my MOH got measured, the lady even said she measured perfect for an 8, but then orderd a 10!!!!!!! She asked for them not to order a 10, but they did anyway, just like another BM....I can't even call them today because they are closed...

I am not sure why she would have done that, it really is a shame if they PURPOSELY ordered it larger to make money from alterations, and I am sorry you are having troubles with them. Def. speak with the store manager of your dress shop, and tell them what you just told me, and ask for an explanation of why a larger size was ordered. You can also go to the store, make them SHOW you her measurements against the size chart, and if it does match up to the 8, absolutely insist in a reduction of the alteration charges. Again, I am so sorry for all your troubles, but call them on this! Good Luck!

the salon who changed the alterations price and caught them in a lie?
She had a paper with the alterations prices and they tried to tell her it was more expensive. I am having a problem with my salon ripping off my BMs...they have a $70 cap and are charging EVERY girl $70!!!!!!
I am sooooo mad right now.
Anyone know the post I am talking about?
Could u FM me who, please. I just had a incident w/a BM dress im getting that I just got the other day and lets just say my alterations cost more than the cap. Not a happy camper but what are u to say or do. I also heard that one of the BM's is prego so they ordered her a 14 and made her pay extra for going up to that size. Now she is 7 months and pre pregnancy a size 6....but a size 14??? She went and said that the dress fit her like a tent and it was horrible!!!! She wanted to cry!
