Those who admit they HAVE a president named BUSH!

since I live now in a hugely democratic state I expect some push back.

I never said I *LOVE* Bush
I never said I *SUPPORT* Bush in everything

But he *IS* our president

For that I am starting this thread.. and I'll continue something like this for as long as it takes for other posters here to understand that to ridicule our government at any and every possible chance is actually insult to some of us.

(omitted rude and uncalled for religious remark I made. My deepest apologies)
That is my honest opinion.

Im not a hard core republican, Texan or not. I admit I voted for him but then again Kerry was Scary in more ways that Bush to me.

Its just giving me a sick feeling that this is such a very rude environment for all out political fanfare of mud slinging, name calling and exaggeration.

Most posters here show decent respect to religions of any and all forms here but seems that LIW considers ok to have all out murder and smear about Bush.

I'll bet I can prove this theory but showing that in the first 10 or less post (or none) that someone will say something degrading about the FEDERAL government. Not just Bush cause last I heard he's NOT KING!

It's as close to making Jewish jokes in front of Jews and it's really really offensive to me.

I understand for you Bush bashing gets you worked up like religion but unless you've spent MOST OF YOUR LIFE defending your religious beliefs like I have..these 8 years of Bush are no comparison in the grand scheme of things.

Re: Those who admit they HAVE a president named BUSH!

Hmm. I'm going to leave the comparison to racial/religious/ethnic jokes aside, and just say this: people who are in the public eye, such as celebrities and politicians, open themselves up for ridicule and criticism. They are "fair game," if you will.

Making jokes about celebrities or critiquing celebrity behavior usually has no serious political implications. BUT...

Critiquing politicians can, ultimately, have serious political implications. Witness the Clinton/Lewinsky flap. A misdeed that nearly got the president impeached and tanked his entire political career was relentlessly perpetuated and dramatized by the media and the public.

While I was (and am) much more of a Clinton fan than I am a Bush fan, in both cases (Lewinsky flap, post-Katrina criticism) I strongly support the public's right to talk smack about politicians. Some smack talking is more useful and tactful than other kinds, certainly, but this country was BUILT on dissent, and I would hate to see dissent be squelched, especially in times of great change and crisis.

I agree with MrsP2be and I am not even Jewish.

Most people express their political views because of our right to Freedom of Speech. True, this can be dangerous right but the Beauty of living in the United States is that you cannot be perscuted by the Government. Believe me, this is the only Country where I feel safe expressing my views. Try doing that in other countries.

There are plenty of posts here that I find offensive but I either bite my tongue or defend my views.

I also feel that every President serving their term, demo or Republican, always gets bashed by the public. Someone is always going to get offended.

this is exactly what I was thinking....I love the United States of America....because my government allows me to openly disagree with the poltical figures that hold office.

Every American has the right to disagree with the government...which is why we hold elections every 4 yrs to establish a new leader....I feel that we do vote for the canidate that we agree with most....but that doesn't mean that we have to sit back for 4 years while he or she leads the country into war, or leads us through a natural disater, without expressing our feelings or concerns.

The President of the United States does not have the authority to run the government to his or her own preferance....we have a government made up of the PEOPLE...and it is our DUTY as Americans to voice our opionions and to demand that the government listens to us....we are a DEMOCRACY...we are NOT a TOTALITARIAN governemnt.

I would tend to agree. One of the original founding purposes of the media was to be the watchdog of the government...to portray many opinions and sides of a story that allow the public to (all else being equal) form an opinion and hopefully act upon that opinion to reverse or prevent injustices. We are one of the countries thathas the power to change our government (again all things being equal), and the only way we can take advantage of that power is by keeping ourselves informed.

Uhhhhh, V, you've had no problem insulting Hillary Clinton to my face.

Granted, I've got no problem shouting to the rooftops about how I almost was homeless because of the last Bush presidency at the age of 8, but still.

Finally V, no one's threatened you with eternal punishment or murder because you voted for Bush. Poor Choice there, hon.

Re: Those who admit they HAVE a president named BUSH!

no matter if you agree or disagree, life has taught everybody to say something, about something, when they dont know the facts. its what people do.

Last I check, Bush still has a couple of years left, and trying his best to do something about various issues. it may not be right to you personally but prehaps they have bigger ideas in mind. No body is perfect and the last election, it was hard to choose because they both candiadates had issues. Remember the last election was dubbed "The better of two evils"?

Keep in mind, the media is trying to get the stories/debates so you will watch them. As much as there are bad things, there are good things that have happen. I would boycott CNN but they have good coverage if this tragic situation. Then again, its there job. Its a shame in a people have to suffer, be put on TV and say they have nothing.

Back to the topic, this is why voteing is important so that way, the better person wins. Whose to say the same thing would of happen if Kerry won? let the critics be critics as there are so much more bigger things then to start blameing each other.

Lets fix the problem in the 3 states hurt by mother nature, then start the Katrina Comminsion to find out what really happened. (with the departure of Brown, im sure he will take some, if not most of the heat of the president)

Re: Those who admit they HAVE a president named BUSH!

I think if a CEO of a Fortune 500 company appointed officers who were unqualified, did not have the job experience to handle problems and screwed up royally, he/she would have shareholders to answer to. Why shouldn't people living in a democracy be able to question the accountability of its elected officials in a similar way?

I also think that one of the best parts of living in a democracy is the freedom of speech and the right to question our government. I actually find it offensive that I am seen as less of an American or less patriotic if I question governmental decisions. I love my country and question things because I have concerns about our people and our future.

Politicians are public figures and are therefore held publicly accountable for their achievements and failures. I dont agree that we can't voice our dissent. This is America.

I can understand that some Bush supporters can feel insulted when some people (including me) voice our opinions about him - just as I dont like it when some people refer to the Clintons or other politicians in less than flattering terms -

like your calling John Kerry SCARY. . . a politican I've supported and volunteered for over the last 10 years.

But do we have the right to yell our dissent at the top of our lungs? you betcha!! Am I going to stop criticizing Bush and Cheney when I think they have abused their office? heck no!

Can you criticize the politicians you dont admire - go ahead!

Granted -rants are not always the most intelligent political debate out there - but we have the right to discuss, debate, yell, rant, and vote - and I'm grateful for that.

It's great for you that you support and love president Bush, and you can scream it off roof tops if you like. But some people don't share your enthusiasm for our president, and this is an open forum as well as a free country so everyone here has a right to express their opinion just as you do.

Re: Those who admit they HAVE a president named BUSH!

I think it is entirely democratic, American, and patriotic to speak our minds, hold the government and its leaders responsible for their actions, and to not allow injustices to go unnoticed. It is NOT very "American" or patriotic to support someone even when they do things that are harmful or negligent to the people they are supposed to serve. To blindly or ignorantly follow someone in the name of patriotism is the very antithesis of the beliefs this country was founded upon.

And, in your original post, a good reason for separation of church and state was nicely demonstrated. Two very different things to discuss or criticize government versus religion....
