What about water lillies? I don't know how available they are though.
Rose petals float well, and are relatively inexpensive.
Or even floating rose candles as an option.

Rose bulbs or heads float and they are beautiful. You could buy online from Online Whoselsale Flowers relatively cheap. They sell both roses and petals by the bag.

Re: WHAT ARE THE BEST FLOWERS FOR FLOATING IN WATER?
Gardinas usually run a little more then Gerber Daisys... I ususally like Gerbers the best.
And yes... they ususally run $4.00 a stem.
But that doesn't include the vase cost...

Re: WHAT ARE THE BEST FLOWERS FOR FLOATING IN WATER?
look at micheals for a glass dish. something long and thin maybe, with a 2 inch rim or so. and i say gerber daisys. they are pretty, lay flat and they come in assortment of colors and sizes. you can mix the two, gerbers and mini gerbers.

Honestly, if you're going with Gerberas...try to buy wholesale. They are a LOT LESS at the flower market. $4 a stem is what peonies go for at the market...gerberas go for $1.00 and change.
