Time Between Church and Reception

Ok...so...i think we're going to do a 4:30 ceremony with a 7:30 cocktail hour...now...our ceremony will be about a half hour, maybe even less (quick, sweet and to the point) so that brings us to about 5:00 then figure you need to leave time for the recieving line...yadda yadda yadda which brings us to about 5:30...we want to take ALL pictures before the cocktail hour because we want to go to the cocktail hour so......that gives us 2 hours for pics....
so here's my point....

I have had a few people ask...
Well, what is everyone supposed to do in the time between the church and reception?
(the church and hall are only about 10 minutes away from each other....)

so here's my question...is that really MY problem?????? should i change my schedule around to accomodate people? or leave it to accomodate me and FH since after all it is OUR wedding day! there have been some people in my FH's family as well as mine that have asked me this question???
what do you think??

Can your mom invite the family and friends to your house for cookies and coffee?

I have the same situation. The church is at 3pm and the cocktail hour starts at 7pm. My parents are getting a suite at the Hampton Inn on the LIE. So they are inviting guests back to the suite for like cheese/crackers, veggie platter, etc. But don't stress out about it. It really isn't your problem. Don't rearrange your schedule for them.

Re: Time Between Church and Reception

Our CH starts immediately after the reception, but this is how WE wanted it!! We're taking photos before the ceremony, but we are doing this because we are getting married at our hall.

Typically every wedding I have been to had a 2-3 hour lag between the ceremony and reception, and yes, family and friends do gripe about having to kill time during picture taking, but usually they always end up at someone's house or hotel room. I would go to a movie or shoot pool, however I was always in the bridal party, so I never had this luxury!!!

I would ask one of the family members to host a movie and popcorn party, or have everyone go out somewhere for a few drinks.

Re: Time Between Church and Reception

Thanks ladies....

I think MY family is going to go back to my sister's house which is very close to both the church and reception. Or else back to the hotel since many are from out of town....

However, I don't know about his family.....

But is this my responsibility?
I might suggest the hotel suite idea....

Re: Time Between Church and Reception

some catering halls will accomodate your guest an hour before CH with wine/cheese or champagne and strawberries...

you should call and inquire.

Re: Time Between Church and Reception

They asked if they could go to the reception hall early...But we're going to be there taking pictures. does that matter? I mean....i don't really want a gazillion people standing around watching us get our pictures taken....do i sound like a brat?
