DIY invites girls - advice, please! post is fixed.
FI and I decided that we are going to make our own invites. Of course, this translates to ME making our invites.
I went to the paper store and ordered some samples from envelopments, which I will get next week. I want to layer the paper. Here is my dopey question: How do you stick the layers of paper to each other? Spray glue? doublestick tape?
Next question: What is the best way to cut the paper? They don't sell the cardstock in the sizes I need. I could buy a papercutter, I guess. Is there a better way to do it? The lady at the store said that Kinko's might do it, but they charge per cut.
Thanks in advance for your advice! I am totally clueless. There's going to be a class for making invites at the store where I got the stuff, but it is in Oct. and I can't wait that long to start!

Kinko's actually has a massive paper cutter that can cut 100 sheets at a time, so you are not paying for 4 cuts per sheet of paper, it will most likely be 4 cuts once or twice (maybe do stacks of 50 just to be safe).

After making my own envelopment style invitation, I HIGHLY suggest purchasing a Xyron sticker maker machine. It made life SOOOOO much easier when it came to adhering all the different layers of paper together. You can buy one at most craft stores, but I got mine HERE .
We cut all of our paper down ourselves, but I would suggest taking it to Kinko's.
Another piece of advice... give yourself plenty of time.

Sorry for the previous bank post. I hit enter by accident!
I assembled my envelopment invites myself using mini glue dots. I used 4, 1 for each corner to adhere each layer. It was the easiest thing to do. Just make sure you read the directions first (you don't even need to peel the dots just press the tape its on to the paper). It is unnoticeable.
If you go to Staples, I believe they charge $2 a cut. My friend went there. I went to Paper Presentation in the city and they also charge $2 a cut. Now that's $2 to cut the paper once, no matter how many sheets there are (100 sheets and 1 cut=$2 for everything)

I bought a paper cutter, and it has come in handy for other things too. I used glue dots to adhere the layers of paper on my pocketfold invites. Worked great!
One tip -- start early. I started working on the invites in February and didn't finish until June. I didn't work on them every day, but it still took me a while to get everything done.

I also found that an exacto knife works really well for cutting. You have to make sure you have a straight edge to put it up against. I had to cut a lot of paper for a bunch of different projects and this was the best thing. You can only do like 2 sheets at a time, but it is very quick and percise.
I found that with the paper cutter, the paper slides and the cut is crooked and it is a pain to get it straight.
I would use spray glue to put the sheets together.

one more thing to mention is that if you are using vellum to overlay make sure you use vellum adhesive so you won't see the glue through the vellum. It does make a difference.

We used doublestick tape, and it worked great. I tried gluedots and glue lines, and they both sucked - wouldn't come off the paper, wouldn't stay sticky. We also used rubber cement, which worked as well as the tape, but it was messier and you had to wait around for it to dry.
You can also use 3M Super Spray Adhesive, but it gets a fine dust all over everything and you have to do it outside or in a well ventilated room.
