POLL:: Wearing a light color to a wedding

I wanted to see the general consensus of opinions in regards to wearing a light color to a wedding. Is it an old rule and things change, or do you feel it's still inappropriate?

Personally, it wouldn't bother me if someone would show up to my wedding wearing ivory or cream, or heck even white, I think that most would know who the bride is, but then some in my family are emphatically against it. Just curious to hear your stance on this!

Thanks!

It wouldn't bother me. As long as they were happy and comfortable in what they chose to wear.

one of my moms friends wore a short white dress to my wedding it didn't bother me... i think it depends on the dress, but for the most part, i think people know who the bride and groom are and its not a big deal at all.

Re: POLL:: Wearing a light color to a wedding

MY Bm's are wearing the color Cashmere (off-white/creme) and it doesn't bother me one bit.

However, FI and MOM were po'd at first, but I explained to them, that anyone can wear white, the bride is going to stand out no matter what - big poofy dress, veil, smile on her face....unmistakable.

NOW...if someone wore something that looked like a wedding dress...that's just rude!

I did hear of someone's FMIL picking an ivory gown with a TRAIN ()and felt that was wrong, considering the FMIL was being vindictive, so yes, I think if the situation is deliberately in that manner, it's wrong.

I think anyone else wearing white or ivory is inapproiate. I was at a wedding this summer and two of the guests wore white, one was a sundress and the other was a long beaded gown. All of the guest were talking about them and the nerve they had wearing it.

I would personally be upset if someone did it at my wedding.

i think if it was a tea-length or short dress, i wouldn't mind at all. i think it is best to steer clear of wearing long white/off white dresses

It would bother me. It's just a matter of respect for the bride. Not so much if it was just a spring dress, but a full length gown shouldn't be worn to a wedding. JMO!!

Re: POLL:: Wearing a light color to a wedding

I wouldn't have been upset if someone did at my wedding, but I would never do it personally. I just think it's a bit tacky, since there are so many other options out there. And you know the bride is going to be in white/ivory...so why do it?

Re: POLL:: Wearing a light color to a wedding

What a coincidence...I just got off the phone with a friend who is going through her proofs and she said that she was a bit frustrated because her SIL wore a white dress to the wedding. She is asking the photographer to make the dress a different color in the pics.

My opinion: Let the bride wear white... there are many other colors in the rainbow that guests can wear.

Re: POLL:: Wearing a light color to a wedding

A good friend's date wore a short tiny tight white dress to our wedding. I was a little surprised and thought it was a little tacky but laughed it off. I wouldn't wear white or a light color to a wedding. I told my mom she could if she wanted (the dress she wore only came in white, black, and lavender)....she only wanted me in white and chose the lavender.

Re: POLL:: Wearing a light color to a wedding

My MIL wore a cream gown and mine was ivory. At first I wasn't overjoyed, but I got over it. She certainly didn't take anything away from me and she loved her dress.
I recentlt wore a very light lilac gown to a wedding and I didn't feel that was inappropriate at all.

I had a friend wear a white sundress- I didn't care but it did look a little odd in the pics.

I've never really paid attention to what guests wear at weddings. I don't think I would care if anyone was wearing a light color.

Re: POLL:: Wearing a light color to a wedding

i was wondering the same thing... i have seen so many beautiful dresses in champagne / taupe colors and really wanted to buy them, but did not for fear of the bride.

i have another similar question.... what if you wear a dress in color very similar to the bridesmaids. i know at a friends wedding the bms are wearing red, does that mean i cant wear anything red?
