testing your diamond!
Here is a good way to test if your diamond is loose......
take tweezers and test your diamond every so often. try and move it back and forth if it moves get it fixed...
i learned that from a jewler, thats what they do he said.
now go get those tweezers out and start testing hehehehe

Re: testing your diamond!
Better yet, take your ring to the jeweler at least 2X a year because ALL stones become loose. It's also good to check the prongs, the shank and the stone for damage.

I've seen 5ct rings with chipped diamonds (numerous times, contrary to popular belief a diamond CAN chip and often does if mistreated, especially large stones and princess cuts). I would hate for someone to lose a stone or chip it or have the shank break on them (by cracking, happens a lot if your ring was sized).

Re: testing your diamond!
Since I'm getting my wedding ring from the same jeweler I guess I'll have it tested then.

Re: testing your diamond!

whats a shank?
Sorry, should have been clearer!
The shank is the bottom half part of your ring; this is where jewelers cut to either remove metal (make smaller) or add (make larger) since 90% of rings come in size 6...unless your ring was custom made for you, it has been sized. Since metal is added or removed and then soldered ("welded") together that area becomes a little weaker. There's also the possibility of porosity (little pit like holes where air gets through) and your stone (or stones if you have an e-ring with side stones) can and mostly always do become loose. It is imperative to have a good jeweler that can tighten stones...not all of them know how to and your stones can actually crack if tightened incorrectly.
Hope that helped!
OK, in the picture below...the shank is the area from the side of the stone (where it connects) until the bottom (it usually tapers and is wider at the top and narrower at the bottom). The head or "crown" is the setting that holds the stone...

Gee, thanks!! My stone has been "loose" for a while now, and I've only had it for 3 months!!!
I can actually spin it around in my prongs, I guess I better get it checked tomorrow!!

Please go and get it checked...it's really easy to lose stones! It doesn't matter how long you've had it...metal does "give" a bit causing the stones to shift!
