Anyway, I honestly don't like the whole sheer thing, and I don't like that most of the designers that make long sleeves add a BELL to it....why do they have to flare at the bottom? If I wanted to look like an F'ing Princess from Medieval Times....I'd just buy a COSTUME!
I have to agree with you 100%. Most long sleeve gowns are totally not my taste.

Hi, I am Jessica and my eyes are bigger than my wallet. If you are like me, and want a couture gown at an off-the-rack price, this is the thread for you!
I am getting this dress re-created.
you see, I am not only the knock-off thread president, but I am also a client!
Jess, Who are you using to make your gown? The same woman as Christine? I apologize if this is a redundant question, but I didn't notice throughout the thread if you mentioned this info.

ditto- I don't get it either...I guess it's supposed to add drama and flair...and maybe a little tiny bell would be nice....but they just go waaayyy overboard on most, of course this is JMO!

no, the woman that is making my gown is a retired professional wedding dress maker (FIT alum, so I know I am in good hands ) she just happens to be in fh's family, so she is doing it for me, kind of as a favor I guess- but mostly because she is genuinely happy and excited for us...and she LOVES the design and cut of my dress. She may take on a few gowns here and there, so I could ask her if anyone else is interested. she does live in Brooklyn though (WIlliamsburg) and does NOT travel well (she is old- 85 I think, and she needs to be driven anywhere)
She reminds me kind of as yoda- b/c she looks so small and frail- but a sewing machine is her ligh-saber----she just comes out of nowhere with her skills!

You're killing me!!! I'm picturing this little old lady who looks like Yoda sitting at a sewing machine!! 85 and she still can make a dress god bless her!!! I am always amazed by the older generations... They have an incredible work ethic! I was sort of hoping she was out on the island but no big deal. I'll just keep looking!!
Thanks!

I wish I had a grandmother like that! It always adds that special something!
I honestly think getting a wedding dress custom made is really special. You're involved in the making, the ideas, and the whole process....so it's very sentimental.

I'm not an '06 bride, but can I play?
My dress was made by mom and was inspired by this Amsale...of course, the model is very thin so I adjusted the beading and design to emphasize my body type.
There are a lot more pictures posted in my review on The Bride's Review board...

This was the "inspiration"...Amsale Blue Label
I modified it for my body type and the hand embroidery we found from India...I also added a crystal hem (will have better pics when I get my pro-pics)...made with love by my mom!
OMG I LOVE that dress!!

Just gorgeous Sasha!
THANK YOU!
Girls, the best part (besides having a dress made for YOUR body type) was the fact that the original was $4500...my dress was under $300 and that included HAND embroidery on silver thread from India and Italian silk satin! Why pay more?
ETA: Of course my mom didn't charge me labor, but having your dress made by a professional still has a lot of benefits.

i didnt think you werent going to get liner in the dress i just wanted to know if it was going to be a nude colored liner or solid white which jmo would give the gown a different look.
that might be interesting...to have a the contrasting liner under the lace- it would definitely give the dress a different look...
hmmm Consuela, does this mean you are going for the "different" dress....hmmmm LOL
hey- if you want, you can have both dresses made for the price of purchasing one...then you don't have to choose! LOL
you guys really dont think i havent thought of that before. both gowns!!! well i already have. LOL but that is not going to happen. i am going to pick one

Ladies!
Question: how much does it cost (appx) to have a dress like that made? For example a re-make of a Reemie? Detailed bodice, full skirt, and strapless?
TIA

My woman charges approximately $500 including the fabric. However this can vary based on things...but nothing higher than $600.

you cannot go to a "seamstress" with a shop and such- you need to travel to someone who works out of their house and by word of mouth...also, I imagine someone who has cheap rent and low property taxes!
I am paying a little more than Christine- but less than $1000 on a $5000 dress!
SASHA!!!! your dress is fabulous. I know I read you had some problems getting in completely on time, but wow- simply beautiful! would you be so kind as to give me your indian embroidery contact!!

Re: the Official '06 Designer Knock-off thread!
Posted by JessicaM. Goldi- both dreses are stunning, but I really love the one you chose- fantastic and the back- it's so different and beautiful.
Thanks. the Steven Yearick dress weighed about 10 pounds. It was so heavily beaded and just breathtaking. I am pleased with my ultimate choice. It is a dress for a tall person (I'm 5'8") with curves. I truly did not want a ballerina style dress with a big skirt and crinoline. It would be the furthest thing from MY STYLE as I tend to be a minimalist depsite my expensive tastes. I think I would have chosen a long line sleek dress regardless of if I had to cover a tattoo or not.

Minimalist does not always mean inexpensive. BTW, the dress you picked is GORGEOUS!!! Though I have to say that was probably a tough decision because the Steve Yearick was absolutely stunning too!
