Re: the Official '06 Designer Knock-off thread!
No way - totally having a liner! I'm not a SLU-T Jess! Trashy - yes, but not before the Eyes of GOD! SHEESH....I will also have the dress in WHITE - Ivory doesn't go over well with mom - I had enough trouble convincing her of having a Sash and it being gold!
Don't talk to Princess Consuela until she decides which dress she's going with! She had me sitting on the edge of my seat for the whole week and weekend with her POLL!

Jess how long does it take your seamstress?
How's your process go?
I'm going towards the end of October. It takes my seamstress about a month, so I'll have mine before Christmas, and enough time to do something else, JUST IN CASE.
so far the process has been to slow for me!! she has my pics and she's seen and inspected the dress up close. she also purchased the muslin for the pattern already and she is ordering my petticoat this week.
I really want to go and pic out the material already b/c I can't really buy any accessories until I know what the applications for the design on top will be. I know the material will be ivory peau du soie (sp) or silk satin (same thing) but the lace and detailing on the top is another story. Reem Acra uses a computer to program and embroider the designs and they are so intricate, it would take hundreds of hours and more than one person to duplicate free hand- for that cost, I may as well buy the original.
we are going shopping for materials the second week of September, so like you, I hope to have mine done before Christmas (for the same reason too! ) I already picked a back up! LOL
Tracy- my dressmaker is actually a family member that has retired from dressmaking, but is doing an encore performance for me. Christine's dressmaker info is in her post about it. it should be fairly easy for you to find.

I don't have a backup...
Since I've seen this dress and picked it, I have not seen anything else that gives me a feeling even remotely like it.

Re: the Official '06 Designer Knock-off thread!
My biggest dilema, is the whole "I need sleeves" situation. No offense to anyone, but I HATE 99.9% of the long sleeve dresses b/c they're just terrible.

I feel your pain. I dont have a sleeve issue, I had a back issue. I needed to cover a tattoo between my shoulder blades and only the expensive couture dresses were able to serve my need. I was only shown about 5 dresses - thats all they had that could cover my tattoo. I ended up with a Romona Keveza dress which I love. The salon knocked about $700 off the dress and it still cost an arm and a leg. I also tried on a Steven Yearick dress that cost about $4000. If I would have fit in the sample size, they would have cut the price.
#1 My dress - Romona Keveza #2 The Steven Yearick I could not afford. (it came up very high in the back and was heavily beaded) It was stunning.

is there a dilema with this dress, or just that you had to find a dress with sleeves? anyway, Monique obviously figured out a way to do it right (but I also love orchid94 (?)'s Reem Acra- the sheer sleeves with the embroidery are beautiful.)
just make sure she buys a fantastic lace. it's going to be pricey ( I saw nice lace for around $84/yd with beading though) hey- what about your family in France- if you use french lace that they purchase for you there, will it come out cheaper?
just a suggestion. for my invites and stuff my friend is buying the paper in either Greece or Syria, since she is over there now and the paper is good quality (and cheaper!!)

Goldi- both dreses are stunning, but I really love the one you chose- fantastic and the back- it's so different and beautiful.

Re: the Official '06 Designer Knock-off thread!
Random: My mom's Syrian....
Anyway, I honestly don't like the whole sheer thing, and I don't like that most of the designers that make long sleeves add a BELL to it....why do they have to flare at the bottom? If I wanted to look like an F'ing Princess from Medieval Times....I'd just buy a COSTUME!
Sorry for the RANT! LOL
I haven't ventured into the whole fabric arena as of yet. This dress maker apparantly has some type of a HOOK somewhere...we'll see what happens.

that might be interesting...to have a the contrasting liner under the lace- it would definitely give the dress a different look...
hmmm Consuela, does this mean you are going for the "different" dress....hmmmm LOL
hey- if you want, you can have both dresses made for the price of purchasing one...then you don't have to choose! LOL
