American Airlines Miles
I just found out the American Airline is the only airline that wont take Amex miles!
I am so annoyed I need 54,000 more miles to upgrade to first class for our honey moon!
If they took my Amex ones - I would have had enough for 1 way FC upgrades! :(

Re: American Airlines Miles
There's a way to bypass this...but it's a matter of timing.
Amex Points to Starwood Points to American Airlines Points
Amex and Starwood has specials where you can get a 2x or 3x bonus to convert miles from Amex to Starwood. And then Starwood has a straight conversion to American. Time it right and you can get 1:1.
Hope that helps. Check out www.webflyer.com - it has a point convertor calculator.

I was just going to say the same thing. There are other ways to bypass it also...I believe you can go Amex to Alaska Air to American. You just need to do research to make sure you end up with the most points in the end. We were very disappointed w/ our Amex points as well, so we just traded them in for gift certificates for our car rental.
As for American points, we used them to buy our honeymoon tix (business class rountrip to Italy- into Rome, out of Venice). They open up a very limited about of seats, and you basically have to stay up all night calling the night that those seats open up. We didn't have a problem (we're using points to go to a wedding in Seattle also), but the system is a little archaic & if you don't do it that way you could end up getting s c r e w e d.

Re: American Airlines Miles
another option...VIP05 upgrades - they're given to frequent flyers and can upgrade any fare. If you look on ebay or the frequent flyer forums, a lot of AAdvantage members sell them for as low as $300. Hope that helps.

My FH gets a lot of upgrade coupons b/c he is executive platinum on American Airlines. The only problem is that sometimes you need as many as 5 coupons each way for each person to upgrade...so make sure you call and find out how many you would need. Also, make sure they are transferrable, b/c not all of them are.
